Scorecarder Spotlight - Caleb Gibson, Senior Infrastructure Services Engineer
Name: Caleb Gibson
Title: Senior Infrastructure Services Engineer
Location: East Flatbush, NY
Where do you live, and what do you do on the weekends and in your free time?
I was born and raised in East Flatbush, NY, and that’s where I live now. In my free time, I love binge watching action/adventure comedies on Netflix; I also enjoy watching K-dramas. Another passion of mine is finding new restaurants and trying new foods, specifically Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Caribbean cuisines.
I’d really like to get better at cooking. My parents are from Trinidad and Jamaica, and they make delicious foods from their home countries. My dad is an incredible chef: his specialties are jerk chicken, oxtail, and curried goat. One of these days I need to have him teach me some of those recipes.
I’m also really into riding my bike around the city—that is, when it’s warmer out. My friends and I once biked from East Flatbush to Central Park, which was so much fun.
Can you talk about your role at SecurityScorecard?
I do quite a few things: onboarding and offboarding; asset management; software procurement; support help desk tickets; and more. My goal is to figure out what various departments need and to make their lives—and the processes they rely on—easier and more streamlined.
I started four years ago, and before that, I never did anything corporate before. Before coming to SecurityScorecard, I was doing tech support for NYPD dispatchers. I reviewed logs, made sure equipment was functioning properly, and assisted with software issues. Before that, I worked at the Apple Genius Bar, and the Geek Squad—so I've learned how to approach technology-related issues from a customer service perspective. Actually, my very first technical experience came in high school when I volunteered at the Brooklyn Public Library and supported the elderly with their technology issues.
I knew someone who worked here, and they sent me the application link. I saw the requirements and wasn’t sure if I would be a fit. I told them about my technical experience, and I ended up getting the job. SecurityScorecard has been a great place to work. Before I came here, I didn’t know anything about single sign-on services, assets, or MDMs. I’ve grown a lot here and I’m looking to grow even more. I’m always trying to find ways to make an impact.
Continuing education
I’ve been enrolled in a software engineering bootcamp since November -break into software engineering. My goal is to break into software engineering and I’d like to shadow an engineer here at SecurityScorecard and figure out how best I can contribute to the product. I’m also learning programming languages, and my end goal is to get into DevOps
What’s been a stand-out moment from working at SecurityScorecard?
We had a conference in Orlando a couple years ago, which was a lot of fun. It was right after COVID, so it was great being around my colleagues and seeing them all in person. I also love the bonding activities the company hosts, especially the karaoke nights.
Last question: what’s your favorite karaoke song?
Anything by Drake, he’s my favorite artist. Ask anyone who knows me, and they’ll tell you it’s Drake.
Thank you Caleb!
