NATIONAL MINING HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM’s Post

Today, on Saint Patrick's Day, we celebrate the Irish miner who had a vast and lasting impression on American mining communities. Irish immigrants brought with them their culture, religion, celebrations, pastimes, and work-ethic which shaped the mining towns of the American West. Strikes organized by predominantly Irish labor unions saw through changes to our current societal norms regarding child labor, the work day, and fair pay laws. Our nation and mining industry would be completely different without the impact of the Irish immigrant miner! Pictured: A group of miners in Leadville, Colorado outside the Silver Dollar Saloon.
