Does your mentor give you tough feedback? They should. "Mentors aren’t just about the good times,” Saira Malik, Chief Investment Officer at Nuveen, a TIAA company, told LinkedIn News at the Milken Institute Global Conference. “They are there to support you and give you confidence, but they’re also there to give you that tough feedback.” What’s the toughest piece of feedback you’ve gotten from a mentor? Let us know in the comments. #MIGlobal

I like that you have come up with a plan for everyone to try and follow but you also let people know that a mentor isn’t for just the good times but also to correct you when you need it Thank you for that. !!!!

Mentors are not only for the good times, but for pointing out the shortcomings. Either way, it's eye-opening and an opportunity to learn and improve, and becoming more proficient.

There is nothing new under the sun, but there is the time and place and from whom you hear exactly what you need. :) Without mentors we repeat things that need not be repeated.

While I agree that mentors are there to give critical feedback, it needs to be in the context of a supportive relationship. It also needs to be done privately.

Love this!! Best tough feedback I got was: "s$%t or get off the pot already!!" After starring at her for a few moments, I realized she was completely right. I appreciated her cutting thru the proverbial BS to say what needed to be said. Others had politely and patiently listened to all of my "should I, wait until and what about..." excuses that were well worded yet misguided.
