Is it just me, or does it feel like the world is spinning faster than ever? Constant change has indeed become the norm. Sunday mornings have become my sanctuary for reflection—before the hustle of the week begins, when the house is still quiet, and I can contemplate the bigger strategic picture. Both personally and professionally, it's a moment to assess where I've been and where I'm heading. Today, I read a thought-provoking article from the Harvard Business Review titled "How to Succeed in an Era of Volatility." The piece sheds light on the past 30 years—a period of remarkable macro stability with peaceful geopolitics, relatively low interest rates with expanding credit markets and moderate inflation. Now, as we step into a new era marked by post-globalization, capital rationalization, spatial dispersion, shrinking workforces and an increasing reliance on automation, it’s clear that the rules have changed, and that change is here to stay. The article argues that leadership in this new world requires three pivotal skills: #prediction, #adaptability, and #resilience. Reflecting on recent global challenges, down to ones I see in my industry and even personal life, it's evident that the strategies that once propelled us forward might no longer suffice. I think it’s high time we all take a breath and acknowledge that our world has transformed.
