Yesterday, at the European Space Forum, our CEO Eva Berneke shared insights on the crucial role of sustainability in the rapidly evolving space industry - you can find the highlights, below ⬇ 🌍 Integration of sustainability: Eutelsat Group views sustainability as a cornerstone of our long-term strategy. 🛰️ Our unique position: Eutelsat Group operates a combined fleet of 36 GEO and more than 600 LEO satellites, positioning us as the world's first LEO-GEO operator and Europe's largest satellite operator. 📜 Need for harmonisation: a harmonized regulatory framework would improve the conduct of space operations globally, encourage further progress in sustainability and level the playing field across international operators. Commenting on the need for co-operation between all parties to further enhance space sustainability, Eva said: "We need to move forward, speed of the essence. We need to harmonise, and we need to do this within a multi-stakeholder dialogue." Eutelsat Group remains committed to leading by example and driving forward the sustainable development of space activities 🚀

🚀 Exciting Opportunity: Transforming Space Sustainability with Inflatables! 🌌 European Space Agency - ESA invites the European space industry to bid to its recently launched Invitation to Tender: “Inflatables to drag down small satellites”. This initiative is set to change the way we manage the increasingly crowded orbits around our planet, specifically targeting the challenge of small satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This activity aims to design, build, launch, and test an inflatable drag device for de-orbiting small satellites from LEO. The mission? To increase atmospheric drag effects and accelerate natural orbital decay. Our ultimate goal is to combat the clutter in LEO, ensuring a safer and more sustainable space environment for future generations. This project falls under ARTES Core Competitiveness Programme and focuses on the research and development of new technologies and techniques for future satellite communications systems. We are looking for industrial teams that can fulfil the objective of the activity by providing the complete mission, including the satellite platform, payload, launch, and in-orbit demonstration. A key aim is to spin-in proven terrestrial inflatable technologies. The budget for the activity is €4 million, which are fully funded by ESA. Post-mission, our vision is to enable the standardization of future de-orbiting product devices, making them an attractive, easy-to-integrate solution for the small satellite community. Our goal is to create solutions that are not only compatible with current satellite platforms but also adaptable to various satellite sizes. Are you ready to contribute to a cleaner, safer space environment? We invite potential bidders to explore the details of this ITT here: https://lnkd.in/gsByBZ6u. Don’t miss the proposal submission deadline on 15 May 2024. For more insights into this initiative, please visit: https://lnkd.in/g7i_jC4m. We eagerly anticipate the innovative solutions that will emerge! Let’s shape the future of space together! #Europe #innovation #SpaceSafety #CleanSpace #ZeroDebris #SpaceTech #Sustainability ESA Connectivity and Secure Communications ESA Operations, Engineering & Space Safety

What an incredible 2 days at the inaugural UK IOSM conference! I thoroughly enjoyed MCing the first day. Sincere thanks to all attendees, speakers, and the UK Space Agency for their invaluable support. Key takeaways for me: The UK government's commitment to IOSM through policy, regulation, and funding is steadfast. Space sustainability must be at the heart of future activities to protect our planet. While exploring Mars is exciting, protecting our orbital environment through international collaboration is crucial. We need to think in terms of capabilities, use cases, and engaging narratives beyond just technology. Enthusing the next generation is vital, as they will build the future space economy. The potential applications of space are exceptionally exciting, extending well beyond typical contexts. I'm excited to see how Satellite Applications Catapult Beyond Earth Mission can help to drive the IOSM market forward, supporting with TRL Advancement, Policy, Risk and Regulation, Commercialisation and Demonstration infrastructure.

⚡ Flashback to Lynn Zoenen's passionate plea for investing in the 🇪🇺 European #space industry at last week's 16th European Space Conference in Brussels: 🎤 "Our decision to establish our base in Europe was driven by several compelling factors: the exceptional university talent pool, unaffected by brain drain to the US thanks to ITAR regulations; access to cutting-edge technologies at more reasonable valuations compared to other regions; and a political landscape that recognizes the crucial role of space technology in advancing many major industries." A special thanks to David DANA, Catherine Bender, Fabrizio Morgera, Antonella CALVIA-GOETZ, and Serena Sertore for the discussion! #EuropeanSpaceConf #venturecapital #newspace
