Job Description
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Vice President of Development Operations & Donor Services will serve as a member of the Development Leadership team. The VP will manage a team of professionals and lead development planning & data analysis, prospect research, event management, development communications, donor stewardship, and annual giving strategies. The VP will play a key role in developing and monitoring the Development budget, including gift projection data and expenses in close coordination with Development Leadership and Finance. If appropriate, the VP will carry a small portfolio of qualified principal gift donors.

Position Summary:

Compensation
Salary range based on geo-differentials:
- $185,000-$200,000/year = National
- $215,000-$230,000/year = Alaska, CA (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY
- $235,000-$250,000/year = NYC (not Oyster Bay), San Francisco, Seattle
Essential Functions
- Lead and direct development operations and donor services functions, including:
- Budgeting and reporting
- Planning & data analytics
- Prospect Research
- Development Communications
- Donor Stewardship
- Events and Engagement program
- Canopy program
- Coordinate annual budgeting processes with Development Leadership and Finance, including gift projections and expenses by department, monitoring, and reporting variances.
- Oversee a development communications strategy and team of professionals that supports the fundraising priorities at Audubon, including campaigns, Annual Report, and impact reporting.
- Oversee a donor stewardship program that supports principal and major gift strategies.
- Develop and oversee the Canopy program; develop and implement strategies to advance mid-level donor qualification protocols and activities to support building the donor pipeline across Audubon.
- Oversee a comprehensive stewardship program for Canopy, in coordination with the Direct Response and Leadership Giving teams.
- Oversee Events and Engagement programs to drive the event planning for strategic events, including national board meetings.
- Oversee and provide strategic direction to build a best-in-class prospect research program, development operations function, providing support for all aspects of donor data and management.
- Participate as a submit matter expert in opportunities to engage with leaders and development colleagues across Audubon via in-person and virtual team meetings and fundraising training opportunities.
- If appropriate, manage a small portfolio of qualified principal gift donors.
- Senior-level development professional with 15+ years of experience in organizations that have a reputation for strategic thinking, organizational excellence, and aggressive action, with at least 5 years of management experience developing strategy and overseeing a team of development professionals, preferably in a decentralized setting. Bachelor’s degree also required. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- Proven track record of overseeing development operations teams.
- Experience in working in partnership with teams managing donor relationships.
- Excellent leadership skills; must be comfortable and experienced in managing a decentralized, regional team and mentoring and directing staff.
- A self-starter with a positive attitude and demonstrated capability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Keen attention to detail, with the ability to synthesize and carefully analyze information; follow best practices, trends, and make decisions for Audubon’s development operations program.
- Skilled at working cross functionally with leaders, as well as volunteers and boards.
- Ability to drive, manage and delegate project work. Establish and monitor priorities and maintain flexibility while meeting deadlines.
- Experience with budgeting and analyzing revenue and expense activity.
- Exceptionally strong communicator; superior interpersonal skills also a must.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, as well as navigating, analyzing, and reporting data from fundraising databases and other web-based tools. Knowledge of Salesforce a plus.
- Willing and able to travel, as required for the job.
