The Senior Vice President, Finance/Chief Operating Officer (SVP/COO) is responsible for the strategic direction, leadership and operational oversight for the fiscal and financial management, accounting, human resources, education, and information technology operations of the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) and its subsidiary organizations (WHA Information Center and C4). The SVP/COO leads, implements, and executes strategies and programs to ensure WHA is positioned for fiscal sustainability in the changing health care and regulatory environment.
The SVP/COO is also active in the advocacy function of WHA by providing advice and analysis on different aspects of health care, primarily focusing on reimbursement and regulatory issues surrounding government payment programs. This position is also the primary staff liaison to Wisconsin hospital Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) and other health system revenue cycle managers, the WHA Board of Directors Audit & Investment Committee, WHA’s Council on Finance and the Council on Rural Health.
Requirements
Knowledge & Experience
A bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting, or similar field, is required. A master’s degree in health care finance or license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly desirable. A minimum of five years’ experience in the health care finance field as a hospital chief financial officer, a consultant with an accounting firm or work in a related business, such as a hospital association, is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Scope & Challenges
This position is responsible for internal operations, oversight of the WHA Information Center, and provides support and analysis for public policy efforts. Responsibilities of the SVP Finance/COO include working with other allied health care associations as a representative of WHA and commenting in the media regarding hospital and health system financials, upon request.
