SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Senior Research Assistant position is to help ensure the smooth operation and facilitation of science in the Schenkel laboratory. Responsibilities will include 1) Managing a complex and sizable mouse colony. This includes ear tagging, tail clipping, genotyping, and weaning mice. It also includes setting up new breeder pairs. 2) Helping to put into place modifications and new IACUC and IBC protocols. 3) Managing the ordering system and resupplying different parts of the laboratory, and 4) Providing technical and physical support on mouse experiments. Extensive experience working with mice is extremely desirable. The SRA must be able to work with the PI and laboratory senior leadership to ensure proper care of the mouse colony. Finally, the SRA will be expected to continue to adapt and learn new skills/techniques for a preferably long-term position. This position requires someone with significant experience handling small rodents/mice.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
1) Managing the mouse colony. This includes organizing the colony, updating the colony software, tagging/tailing/genotyping mice, setting up new breeders, and allocating mice for different experiments.
2) Data Management Participates and contributes to the institutional and external compliance efforts necessary for biospecimen protocols, and laboratory processes.
3) Laboratory Research Coordination Assist the PI and other laboratory members to coordinate the laboratory research activities and daily lab research operation.
4) Managing supplies and ordering supplies Assist the PI and Research Scientist in the laboratory with ordering new and back up supplies. Ensuring that the lab does not run out of critical reagents.
5) Helping to manage the IACUC and IBC protocols Together with the PI, the SRA will help to put in amendments and new protocols for the IACUC and IBC
