Laboratory Biller and Coder

Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Laboratory Biller and Coder to join our team. As a crucial member of our laboratory operations, you will be responsible for accurately coding and billing laboratory services to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and maximize revenue.

Responsibilities:

Assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to laboratory tests and services based on documentation and regulatory guidelines (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).

Review and analyze patient information, lab reports, and medical records to ensure accurate code assignment.

Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits for laboratory services.

Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies electronically or by paper as necessary.

Follow up on unpaid claims, denials, and appeals to ensure timely reimbursement.

Collaborate with laboratory staff, physicians, and billing team members to resolve coding or billing issues.

Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, healthcare regulations, and insurance practices.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Medical Coder or Biller in a laboratory or healthcare setting.

Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding systems and medical terminology.

Familiarity with insurance guidelines and reimbursement processes related to laboratory services.

Proficiency in using billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing procedures.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification preferred.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher in Health Information Technology or related field preferred.
