About us
In a diverse city known for its rich culture and beautiful beaches, Tampa General Hospital offers yet another incentive – world-class health care. Tampa General is a private not-for-profit hospital and one of the most comprehensive medical facilities in West Central Florida serving a dozen counties with a population in excess of 4 million. As one of the largest hospitals in Florida, Tampa General is licensed for 1,040 beds, and with over 8,000 employees, is one of the region’s largest employers. Tampa General Hospital has been affiliated with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine since the school was created in the early 1970s. Tampa General is the primary teaching affiliate of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and over 300 residents are assigned to Tampa General Hospital for specialty training in areas ranging from general internal medicine to neurosurgery. In addition, USF medical students, nurses and physical therapy students all receive part of their training at Tampa General. Faculty of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine admit and care for patients at Tampa General as do community physicians, many of whom also serve as adjunct clinical faculty. TGH is the area’s only level I trauma center and one of just five burn centers in Florida. With four medical helicopters we are able to transport critically injured or ill patients from 23 surrounding counties to receive the advanced care they need. The hospital is home to one of the leading organ transplant centers in the country, having performed more than 6,000 adult solid organ transplants, including the state’s first successful heart transplant in 1985. Tampa General Hospital is committed to serving all residents of West Central Florida. We provide comprehensive health services, ranging from wellness and primary care to the most complex specialty care and post-acute services.

Today, we celebrate the land of the free and the home of the brave! We're wishing everyone a day filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories. As we gather with friends and family, let's take a moment to appreciate the unity that makes our nation strong. Have a safe and spectacular Independence Day, Tampa Bay! 🇺🇸✨🎆 #IndependenceDay #July4th While enjoying today's festivities, let's also keep things safe. Thousands end up in the ER each year from fireworks injuries. Consumer fireworks, including sparklers and firecrackers, can burn hot enough to cause third-degree burns. For a safe celebration, enjoy public shows put on by the professionals.

Vanessa Hernandez, a brave lung transplant patient who’s been awaiting her perfect donor match at the TGH Transplant Institute, has been keeping us smiling with hilarious updates about the construction she sees from her room every day. But construction looked a little different today! To Vanessa's surprise, TGH team members and our awesome construction team were holding "Stay Strong" signs just for her. Her reaction was priceless. Moments like these remind us of the strength found in unity and the unwavering support that defines our TGH family. Vanessa is an inspiration to us all, and we can't wait to see her shine as a spokesperson at the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis walk in September here in Tampa. Stay strong, Vanessa! 💙 #WeAreTGH #TGHTransplantInstitute #PulmonaryFibrosis
