Finance Director (National Remote)

Scion Nonprofit Staffing, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Finance Director on behalf of our client, a renowned national mission-driven organization at the intersection of health care and homelessness. This full-time remote role can be seated anywhere in the United States and is available immediately.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Finance Director oversees the financial strategy and health of the organization, ensuring integrity and sustainability through strategic planning, analysis, and management. This role leads the Finance Team in finance and accounting, budgeting and planning, business administration, and finance operations. As a leadership team member, the Director supports strategic direction by providing essential financial information for informed decision-making processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision:

  • Lead and develop the Finance Team, fostering a high-performance culture, continuous improvement, teamwork, and alignment with organizational values.
  • Organize and supervise financial staff, providing coaching, mentoring, and support while ensuring compliance with organizational policies.

Leadership:

  • Develop and communicate financial forecasts, identify trends, recommend adjustments, evaluate infrastructure needs, and propose improvements.
  • Provide insights to aid the Management Team's decisions and communicate these decisions to the Finance Team.
  • Participate in strategic planning with Directors, Board, and staff to set programmatic directions and organizational budget.

Finance and Accounting:

  • Maintain the organizations general ledger, analyze financial reports, and present timely and accurate monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee financial, project/program, and grants accounting, ensuring compliance with GAAP, OMB Uniform Guidance, HRSA standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the Finance Committee and prepare monthly financial reports for the Board.
  • Effectively communicate critical financial matters to the CEO and Finance Committee.
  • Manage annual audits and implement corrective actions as needed. Prepare the organizations 990 and federal Indirect Cost Rate application.
  • Manage cash flow, partner with development for financial reporting, and maintain accurate financial records as per federal standards.
  • Oversee payroll administration, including taxes and insurance.

Budgeting and Strategy:

  • Lead the annual budget planning process in collaboration with the CEO.
  • Administer and review financial plans and budgets.
  • Enhance budgeting and financial processes, including software implementation.
  • Develop a fiscal literacy training program for the Management Team and oversee financial planning for the national conference.
  • Produce and distribute expenditure reports against budget by funding sources to appropriate Directors and Managers.
  • Prepare budgets for grant proposals and financial projections for deliverable-based contracts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Over 10 years of accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role, ideally within a nonprofit setting.
  • 5 years of experience managing multiple government and private grants with intermediate knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance.
  • College degree in finance, accounting, or business; preference for M.Acc., CPA, or MBA.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (preferably MIP) and spreadsheet software (particularly MS Excel).
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and adept at remote work.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, promoting transparency and collaboration across diverse backgrounds.
  • Adaptability to new software and workflows, and capacity to respond promptly to information and reporting needs.
  • Commitment to collaborative teamwork and a track record of successful team management.
  • Advanced understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, GAAP, and IRS regulations.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

In addition to a salary of $100-120k (or more DOE), this opportunity offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, 401k (3% employer contribution), short- and long-term disability, FSA/DCA, 24 days of PTO to start, 10 paid holidays, 1 floating day, and parental leave.
