Position Function/Purpose:
To teach visual arts in an elementary school position.
Major Responsibilities:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.

Major Responsibilities:
- Teach a sequential visual arts curriculum as established by the Texas Education Agency in conjunction with the local district board policies and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student’s achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
- Coordinate all activities within the school pertaining to the elementary visual art program.
- Maintain an awareness of current instructional techniques, teaching strategies, district initiatives, visual art techniques and skills, and TEA requirements and recommendations.
- Attend required staff trainings and evidences a desire for continuous growth in the field of visual arts.
- Work closely with other elementary/middle school visual art teachers and comprehensive classroom teachers to improve educational offerings to students.
- Work closely with community, educational, arts, and business organizations to promote the arts in the local community.
- Coordinate with the Director of Elementary Art with the coordination of the visual art program and projects throughout the district.
- Participate in local and state art organizations.
- Work closely with the local administration to ensure that the arts are a valuable and viable part of the school curriculum.
- Display student work through exhibitions and competitions, both on campus, district wide, and in the community. Participation is required in Youth Art Month and a minimum of two other art contests.
- Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
- All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.

Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university; valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Studio Art or Art History preferred.
- Demonstrate ability to discuss art pedagogy, as related to project based learning, elements of art, and 21st century art.
- Demonstrate ability to provide/demonstrate portfolio accomplishments in concentrated skill.
- Demonstrate knowledge of art technology software and the ability to perform basic computer skills.
- Demonstrate ability to exhibit patience when working with young children.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organize an art classroom for maximum instructional effectiveness.
- Must have experience or desire to work in a diverse major metropolitan school district.
- Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
- Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession
