Job Summary

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team for our Precision Science & Technologies (PST) business, the Director of Strategy will work closely with the SVP GM to define the business strategy and provide oversight and execution of our key enterprise strategic initiatives. The Director of Strategy will partner with the regional and Business Unit VP & GMs and global functional leaders to drive profitable revenue growth by implementing strategic initiatives, targeting attractive market segments, and spearheading our strategic pricing and share gain activities. They will be responsible for and drive PST’s strategic planning process and craft the long-term commercial success of new and existing products across the portfolio, supporting +$1B revenue for IR globally. The Director of Strategy will also partner with the SVP, BU leaders, and Corporate Development team to identify markets and find, nurture and integrate acquisitions.

To accomplish these goals, it will be critical for the Director of Strategy to help PST build a world-class team that leverages the Ingersoll Rand Excellence (IRX) business system and is powered by diverse and included talent. This includes identifying opportunities to “raise the bar” for both individuals and the team through effective coaching and engagement, as well as instilling a continuous improvement culture. They must be prepared to provide deep insight and best practices to help PST’s teams around the globe. In addition, the Director of Strategy will foster internal relationships to nurture a culture based on respect, teamwork, communication, and results.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of the PST Senior Leadership team that sets the company’s strategic direction and demonstrates enterprise-wide, global leadership.
  • Lead PST’s annual strategic planning processes and specific strategy initiatives across the company. Define, manage, and track key company-wide strategic performance.
  • Partner closely with Ingersoll Rand Corporate Development and key stakeholders on Merger & Acquisition deal flow, analyzing the opportunities and risks and support the inorganic funnel.
  • Identify, define, and articulate emerging trends in the industry and market for the company through maintaining market and competitor intelligence.
  • Work closely with the regional and Business Unit VP & GMs and global functional leaders to develop a roadmap for achieving higher organic growth that leverages all aspects of IR’s growth engine.
  • Partner with marketing teams to identify opportunities for growth and define vertical market strategy and strategic commercial initiatives.
  • Develop thought leadership on strategic pricing and strategic segmentation, providing oversight for all aspects of global pricing strategy development and execution.
  • Collaborate with Business Unit Product and General Managers to architect a global product strategy and product roadmap that will support the brand position and ensure that the company is well positioned in a dynamic competitive landscape.
  • Evaluate white space opportunities for possible expansion through new business ventures, outside innovation collaborations, as well as technology acquisitions.
  • Drive the continuous improvement mindset through the Strategy team in further developing growth processes utilizing the Ingersoll Rand Excellence (IRX) System such as by leading the weekly PST operating plans and NPD tracking.
  • Support IR’s Investor Relations and Sustainability teams for external reporting and meetings.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of relevant top-tier strategy consulting experience and experience leading strategy or business development within a corporation
  • Understanding of the commercial and financial implications of strategy development process
  • Must have a high level of strategic agility, excellent decision making and problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to drive innovation.
  • Significant experience with financial modelling and business case development, as well as Key Performance Indicator (KPI) measurement and analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop partnership strategies that support organizational goals.
  • A high level of cultural sensitivity and awareness with the ability to create a diverse organization. Able to engage effectively across executives and leadership teams.

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

This will be a hybrid/remotely based position, preferably located in Chicago, IL or Charlotte, NC with anticipated travel of up to 50%.
