Job Summary

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis leads the development of New England Conservatory’s annual operating and capital budgets, manages the ongoing budget and forecast process, and supports long-range planning efforts through the analysis of financial data to turn information into insight and action.

Essential Functions

  • Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, and in coordination with the senior leadership team, manages the annual budget and forecasting processes for the Conservatory, including development of policies and guidelines related to budgetary decisions.
  • Provides technical, research, and statistical support and analysis to colleagues throughout the Conservatory to support budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and projecting; identifying and understanding variances; cost containment; and revenue enhancements .
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, supports budgetary planning around staffing and compensation.
  • Works proactively with co lleagues throughout the Conservatory to develop clear financial objectives and questions, collects, refines, and coordinates data, produces descriptive and inferential analyses, synthesizes and presents findings, and develops data solutions to ensure that stakeholders have the information they need .
  • Develops presentations of analytic findings, highlighting meaningful information for financial and resource allocation planning, including presentations to the Board of Trustees, Finance, and Building & Facilities committees, as well as other stakeholders.
  • Participates in various initiatives and projects related to data governance, ad-hoc reporting, external reporting requirements, and documentation of work-product; including but not limited to audit requirements related to budget to actual analysis as well as functional expense reporting.
  • Analyzes information and creates accurate and timely reports, as well as provides other insights to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Provides a high level of service that cultivates and maintains strong working relationships and effectively communicates information; takes ownership and accountability for timeliness, accuracy, and relationship-building.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Seven years or more of professional experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead budget processes (creation, management, and forecasting).
  • Significant experience in financial analysis and planning, both short- and long-term.
  • Strong data skills, including the ability to query and extract information from various systems and the ability to synthesize and analyze data towards meaningful action.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills required; experience with higher education ERP platforms such as Jenzabar
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.
