JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Consulting Services is a results-driven leader and shares collective responsibility to create strategic approaches for consulting services, and operational methods to provide quality service delivery, increase company visibility and achieve company goals. The role brings excellence to M. Gale’s consultant practice and service delivery and supports employees and associates in delivering exceptional work to clients. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Consulting Services is a member of the leadership team working closely alongside the leadership team, where collaboration, quality, integrity, communication, and accountability stand at the top of our values.  

   

M. Gale is on a path to rapid growth and the Director of Consulting Services plays a vital role in project management, leading and coaching a dedicated team of consultants and associates rooted in the M. Gale methods and approach to service delivery. In addition, the Director works to develop tools to enable the individuals and work teams to achieve optimal results and efficiency while also managing costs and time across the team.  

 

The Director of Consulting Services will have exceptional fund development and nonprofit management experience, a demonstrated talent for managing large and complex teams while building relationships both external and internal to the organization. A proven record of accomplishment in helping nonprofit organizations raise funds and talent for creating and managing business operations is necessary. Experience in and comfort with working with nonprofit executives, boards, and donors is vital to this role. In fundraising, previous experience in campaigns raising major gifts must include strategy and effective implementation for cultivation strategies, solicitation and stewardship, and project management with team members is preferred.  

 

Success in this role requires strong relationship building capabilities, data analysis skills, writing, collaboration techniques and coaching capabilities, talent for taking on increasing roles of responsibilities, ability to multi-task, and proven skills in communication, and community networking.  

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Director of Consulting Services works collaboratively with M. Gale leadership team and as such will be responsible for playing a pro-active role including: 


Strategy and Planning 

  • Engaging in Operational Strategic Planning, Development, and Implementation 
  • Participating in strategic quarterly and annual planning, recommending annual operational goals including identifying project priorities, key accountabilities to build company momentum toward the goals and objectives M. Gale sets forth.  
  • Works with the team to implement, monitor, track, and report progress toward goals. 
  • Works individually and cooperatively with the leadership team to create opportunities to plan for service and product innovation. 
  • Actively participates in forecasting income targets across a range of revenue streams and participates in monitoring and course correcting when necessary.  
  • Participate in strategic activities to position and strengthen corporate visibility and network. 
  • Serves as a partner to the M. Gale business development team to initiate and support sales. 

 

Administration and Finance 

  • Monitoring, tracking, and reporting progress toward client engagement plans. 
  • Provides timely information and other indicators of consulting team performance to reduce costs, increase revenues, and improve overall business systems. 
  • Determine vendor recommendations for consulting projects.  
  • Participate in the sales process to include solutions development and meetings with potential clients as needed.  

 

Operations (Consulting Services) 

  • Provides oversight of M. Gale consulting service implementation including work within the firm’s three services lines: Campaign Services, Fundraising and Nonprofit Management. 
  • Oversee employees and associates responsible for delivering M. Gale services and products.  
  • Ensure team projects are assigned, roles are clear and work plans are developed, followed, monitored and adjusted as may be required. 
  • Manage team (and individual) workload and performance. 
  • Serve as Lead Consultant for M. Gale clients maintaining a book of at least three client accounts or more.  
  • Manage performance review process for employees and associates responsible for client delivery. 
  • Works with administration to monitor project engagement plans, employee utilization, and quality work delivery, reporting, and contract fulfillment. 
  • Works closely with Consulting Service support team to manage and review team progress by creating project management (workflows) systems, timeline modifications, quality analysis of data, report, and other deliverables production for consultant team members. 
  • Responsible for meetings to monitor consulting engagements, discuss strategy and implementation methods. 
  • Provide initial outreach for new clients to welcome them to M. Gale, set consulting direction and introduce team members to activate the account. 
  • Provides support for consultant training and coaching through participation in site-based visits between consultants and M. Gale clients and one-to-one meetings for continued practices, processes, methods, and industry direction for depth of knowledge. 
  • Maintains records of relationship connections and activities for past, current, and prospective clients. 
  • Supports efforts to ensure the production of effective, high-quality proposals, reports, and deliverables and coaches to support any employee or associate lead as needed, as it relates to client engagements. 
  • Monitors for effective client relationships. 
  • Drives timely discussions and insights with consultants on client conversion opportunities. 
  • Ensures the quality of the M. Gale method of delivery is met or exceeded. 
  • Other duties as assigned or negotiated by the COO. 

 

Development Practices 

  • Endeavors to develop relationships with and leverage opportunities with organizations and professionals to maintain a pulse on industry trends, services, and tools to advance M. Gale knowledge 
  • Attend conferences, meetings, and trade shows or community events to advance M. Gale and consultant knowledge 
  • Must be knowledgeable in all areas of the fund development process beginning with data driven decision-making models, donor acquisition and annual fund to major gifts, capital campaign expertise, knowledge of planned giving and nonprofit management. 
  • A talent for creative and technical writing and verbal skills, ability to see patterns through analysis, create and deliver written and oral presentations. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, business, or liberal arts related field. 
  • Experience: at least 15 years professional fundraising experience in nonprofit organization(s). 
  • Well-developed social skills and the ability to forge strong professional relationships. 
  • A person with a compelling presence who empowers others to take responsibility and set ambitious goals for themselves. 
  • A hands-on, involved style that is marked by tenacity, cooperation, a willingness to “think outside the box” and leading by example. 
  • One who brings a sense of passion to his or her work, a commitment to M. Gale mission to improve non-profit organizations and a dedication to excellence. 
  • Knowledge of computer operations and software products including Office 365 and CRM software.  
  • Must demonstrate strong writing and project management skills. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend work; travel as required to ensure client satisfaction and deliverables. 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS 

  • 7+ years’ experience in managing teams or as a fundraising consultant 
  • Evidence of continued professional career development 
  • Certifications - Certified Fundraising Executive, (CFRE) 
  • Member of professional organizations relevant to career advancement, i.e., Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)and the Giving Institute
