Deputy Communications Directors oversees all aspects of press relations with the media and the public as it relates to a specific portfolio of agencies and special interests.


Duties:

  • Advises the Governor and Senior Executive Staff on all programs and policies pertaining to their assigned portfolio.
  • Advises the Governor, Senior Executive Staff and Administration officials on communications and media related aspects and implications of programs and policies.
  • Directs and coordinates overall communications for the Administration, including scheduling and speechwriting.
  • Also responsible for formulating overall long-term policy and communications strategy.
  • Prepares general policy-related communications on behalf of the Governor, as directed.
  • Produces and disseminates reports and other communications of Gubernatorial policy or policy information statements, where broad public distribution is involved; prepares and disseminates official Gubernatorial testimony and statements.
  • Maintains continuing liaison with New York State agencies, Executive Chamber personnel, agency personnel from other states and regional operational alliances, media representatives and outside consultants.
  • Works directly with administration agencies and authorities within their assigned portfolio, on the day-to-day operations regarding policy and communication matters to further the administration’s initiatives and goals.
  • Serves as lead on developing and promoting key administration initiatives related to their portfolio area and coordinating implementation among agencies and staff.
  • Accompanies the Governor on public appearances specific to economic development as required.
  • Performs related duties as may be required.


Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree and at least six years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, communications, public affairs, or a related field. Experience working on communications or press inquiries related to their assigned portfolio is strongly preferred.
