Responsibilities

LIU Post Long Island University is looking for an Associate Dean to manage the operational processes associated with the College of Liberal Arts at the Post campus. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Course Schedule Management

  • Process all course offering schedules from departments for presentation to Dean for approval.
  • Submit approved schedules to Registrar.
  • Facilitate all subsequent changes to approved schedules including instructor assignments.
  • Prepare low-enrollment reports for Dean prior to the start of each semester. Act a liaison with Registrar and department offices when additions and cancellations are submitted.

Workload Management

  • Calculate departmental workload credit based on submitted course schedules each semester. Present workload credit to Dean for approval along with submitted course schedules.
  • Manage College-wide yearly workload credit.
  • Verify accuracy of all faculty workloads prior to approval by Dean and submission to Payroll. Include assignment of full-time faculty release.
  • Update workload credit additions/cancellations and enrollment changes throughout semester.
  • Prepare proposals for workload adjustments for submission by Dean to Academic Affairs.

Adjunct Hiring Management

  • Manage hiring and assignment of adjunct faculty
  • Ensure compliance with adjunct CBA with respect to semester and yearly overload limits. Prepare approval memos for Dean when exceptions are made.

Curriculum Revision Implementation

  • Submit all curriculum changes approved by the College’s faculty and Dean to the Registrar.
  • Provide the Registrar with degree audit configuration instructions based on curriculum changes
  • Work with Registrar on all questions involving existing curricula and graduation clearance for the College’s students.
  • When necessary, prepare NYSED curriculum revision applications. For new programs, function as primary support to departments for assembling NYSED proposals.
  • Revise the College’s undergraduate and graduate bulletins based on yearly curriculum revisions. Include College and departmental introductory text, admissions requirements and faculty listing.

Campus-wide Responsibilities (as assigned by Provost and the Office of Academic Affairs with approval of Dean)

  • Serve as primary academic resource for Registrar in matters involving degree audit revisions campus-wide.
  • Provide oversight for undergraduate bulletin revisions involving the Core Curriculum for all degree plans campus-wide and campus-wide academic policies.
  • Serve as resource for the budgetary aspects of faculty preparing proposals for travel courses.

Additional Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Review and approve change of grades and add/drop/withdrawal requests.
  • Evaluate student transcripts to determine course substitutions, waivers, and transfers of credit.
  • Assist and support Dean during faculty promotion/tenure/sabbatical evaluation processes. Includes compiling of reports based on student teaching evaluation data.
  • Provide administration support for organizing annual Discovery Day for student research.
  • Serve as College’s web manager. Includes the processing and submission of all website changes to Communications.
  • Serve as College’s PeopleSoft trainer for new employees that require direct access to enrollment records. Facilitates requests for establishing or adjusting PeopleSoft user access.
  • Assist Dean in new program development and new curricular initiatives.
  • Provide operational support to Dean for special projects such as faculty retreats/symposia.
  • Attend admissions events as the College’s representative.
  • Other duties as assigned by Dean (e.g., monthly college reports, enrollment reports, budgetary support, competitor analysis, online research)
