Set up a Conversions API integration in Campaign Manager

Last updated: 1 week ago

Conversions API conversions are connected to LinkedIn from a server or partner platform. If you choose an API integration, you need to go through the setup steps for your data source before you set up Conversion Tracking for your conversions.

When you choose to connect your data using an integration, you’ll create a conversion from your server or a LinkedIn Marketing Partner platform:

  • Direct API - Choose Direct API if you’d prefer to connect directly to your company’s server and you have the developer resources to support ongoing maintenance.
  • Partner integration - Choose to connect using a partner platform if you’d prefer a limited technical lift from your team. Partner integrations are typically a one-time set up, making it easier to get started. To see our list of partners, go to our LinkedIn Marketing Partner Directory, click the All specialties dropdown menu, and select Signals. Choose one of the available Conversions API partners to learn about the integration and setup steps. Our partners include:
    • Google Tag Manager
    • Zapier
    • Dreamdata
    • Supermetrics
    • Tealium
    • Adobe (currently in testing)
    • Hightouch (currently in testing)
    • You can also use one of our offline conversion partners. Keep in mind, offline conversions are being updated, and we recommend using a Conversions API partner to help ensure that you have access to all features in Campaign Manager.

Here's a tip

You can also choose to manually upload a CSV file of your conversion data directly into Campaign Manager.

To set up an API connection for your integration:

  1. Sign in to Campaign Manager.

  2. If you need to switch accounts, click the account name in the upper-left corner of the page and select the correct account name from the dropdown.

  3. Click Analyze on the left menu, then select Conversion tracking.

  4. Click the Create conversion dropdown and select Conversions API or CSV conversion.

  5. From here, you can:

    • Select Direct API for a direct integration with your server. You’ll need to set up Conversions API to stream conversions data.
    • Click a partner logo to integrate Conversions API using a partner. After you click the logo, follow the instructions to set up the integration.
    • Choose to use an offline conversions partner.
  6. After you complete your setup, click Next step.

  7. To complete your data connection to Campaign Manager, you’ll need to set up your conversion. To finish setting up your conversion:

When to use Conversions API

Conversions API is a good choice to use when:

  • You need a secure way to connect data to LinkedIn that doesn’t require cookie-based tracking, like the Insight Tag.
  • You want to strengthen your existing conversion tracking. You can use Conversions API and the Insight Tag together to measure and optimize online and offline events across your customer journey.
  • You’d like your data sent to LinkedIn continuously and automatically. With a CSV document, you must manually upload your data, which can result in older information and requires more resources.
  • You have larger volumes of conversions that need to be sent at high frequency.

Best practices for creating a Conversions API conversion

A few best practices when creating a Conversions API conversion:

  • Typically, you should set your conversion window as wide as possible to increase your chances of attributing a tracked conversion. We recommend 90-day click, 90-day view for lead or lower-funnel conversions or a 30-day click, 7-day view for website conversions.
  • Associate your conversions to as many applicable campaigns as possible to maximize chances of attributing a conversion.
  • Consider using the Last Touch - Each Campaign model, which gives credit to all campaigns that had an ad interaction within that window. With this model, each conversion event will count across all campaigns that served an impression within the conversion window to the converting member.

Adding conversions when you're creating a campaign

Once you’ve set up a Conversions API conversion, you can add campaigns to your conversion from your Conversion Tracking page, or you can add conversions when you’re creating your campaign. If you’re adding conversions when creating your campaign, keep in mind:

  • When you create a campaign, you need to use Advanced Mode to add conversions.
  • Conversions may be automatically selected for the campaign.
    • If you only have one conversion, it’ll automatically be selected when you create a new campaign.
    • If you have multiple conversions, up to five conversions may be automatically selected when you create a new campaign with the website visits or website conversions objectives. Conversions are automatically selected based on which conversions are most frequently used or have been updated recently.

Here's a tip

Conversions will only be tracked when attached to a campaign.
