  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Day is observed every year on June 27th. This is a condition that many Veterans and non-Veterans alike develop after experiencing trauma or a life-threatening event. Unfortunately, this condition is often misunderstood by those with no firsthand experience. Much of what is done to observe PTSD Awareness Day involves encouraging open talk about PTSD, its causes, symptoms, how it can affect someone and their loved ones, and getting treatment for the condition. There can be many symptoms that come with having PTSD. Common ones include flashback memories of the event, severe anxiety, and insomnia/nightmares. While these symptoms usually start soon after a traumatic event, they may not appear until months or years later. Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities, private care providers, counselors, and therapists can all help establish an initial care regimen or refer those suffering from PTSD to a qualified care provider. Learn more about PTSD, how to recognize the symptoms and treatment options from The National Center for PTSD at https://www.ptsd.va.gov/. #PTSD #PTSDawarenessday

  • On June 19, 1865, 2,000 Union soldiers arrived at Galveston Bay, Texas, announcing that more than 250,000 enslaved Black people were free, as per executive order. Texas was the last state in the Confederacy to enslave Black people, and the newly freed people in Texas referred to this day as Juneteenth. Juneteenth National Independence Day was the most recently declared federal holiday, on June 17, 2021, to commemorate the end of slavery and to honor African Americans' culture, community, and achievements. This day also serves as a reminder of the inhumane treatment of Black people, and that our country must continue to reflect, change, grow, and learn from its past. #Juneteenth #freedomday #blm

  • Happy Birthday to the United States Army! Join us today in celebrating the 249th Birthday of the US Army by thanking the men and women who tirelessly defend our country. The United States Army was founded by the Second Continental Congress in 1775, making it the oldest service branch in the US Military. The Army began as a small militia force to protect the freedom of the original thirteen colonies, but it has since expanded into the world's most prominent rank of the Military. As the largest branch of the military, the proud men and women of the United States Army continue to make sacrifices to protect our peace and freedom. They are more disciplined – both physically and mentally – more proficient in whatever they do, now than they have ever been. They have been unstoppable since 1775 and continue to serve honorably in times of peace and war. Today we honor all Soldiers, Veterans, parents, spouses, and children of soldiers who serve in the Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve. Zeiders proudly supports the American Soldier who is Always Ready, Always Leading. Zeiders sends a special greeting on this day to our colleagues who have a personal connection to the Army and are proud of their military heritage and service. Thank you for everything you do! #USArmy #GOARMY #HappyBirthdayArmy #ArmyBirthday

  • On June 14th, we celebrate Flag Day! This day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. When the American Revolution broke out in 1775, the colonists were not fighting united under a single flag. Instead, most regiments participating in the war for independence fought under their own flags. The Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia to create the Continental Army hoping for a more united battle against its colonial oppressors. This led to the creation of what was the first American Flag. The 50 stars in the top left corner symbolize the 50 states, and the 13 stripes represent the 13 original colonies. The red, white, and blue was not a coincidence. The founding fathers wanted the colors to have meaning, not just look aesthetically pleasing. Red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice. Join Zeiders in celebrating Flag Day by displaying our nation’s symbol, as many Americans do in front of their homes, businesses, and schools, as part of a long tradition of honoring the flag, its customs, and courtesies. #flagday
