We recently hosted students from the Midtown-Metro Achievement Centers, which provide enrichment programs for low-income urban youth in Chicago. Over two days, high school students were welcomed with a presentation about planning for their futures; were introduced to our work; toured our Janney Technical Center; and engaged in hands-on demonstrations in the concrete, petrography, and instrumentation labs. Each tour culminated in a demonstration that showcased the Tinius Olsen test machine. Visits concluded with lunch and a Q&A session, allowing students to interact with and learn from staff members involved in the tour.
