Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday to our open house at the Richmond Water Pollution Control Plan to see the results of a three-year, $40 million construction project that will improve wastewater treatment, environmental compliance and odor control for the city of Richmond and nearby communities on San Francisco Bay. Veolia has operated Richmond’s wastewater treatment plant for more than two decades, and the construction project marks a significant step forward in modernizing the plant’s ability to effectively treat the city’s wastewater and protect its environment. The wastewater system improvements are expected to provide additional environmental and financial benefits to Richmond, as more efficient equipment will require less energy and lower levels of chemical treatment to operate, reducing the city’s costs as well as its greenhouse gas emissions. These achievements exemplify the goals of Veolia’s global #GreenUp strategy, which strives to lead the ecological transformation of the planet by accelerating water quality improvement, decarbonization and technological innovation. Around the country we’re experiencing increasingly hot summers and the potential for drought in our communities. In Hawaii, where freshwater is limited, we partner with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply to operate the largest water reclamation plant in the state. Here, we employ state-of-the-art technology to treat secondary effluent previously discharged into the Pacific Ocean. As an O&M leader in water reuse in North America, we can help cities and companies adopt water reuse and recycling to progress towards your sustainability goals and become more resilient by protecting against drought risks, diversifying their water supply and saving costs. Canada needs to invest significantly in upgrading and expanding its municipal environmental infrastructure, particularly water and wastewater systems, in order to meet the demands of population growth, new housing and climate goals. Fortunately this won't require reinventing the wheel, thanks to the types of visionary innovations and resources being introduced by Veolia. A number of communities throughout the world have transformed conventional wastewater facilities into resilient, productive local sustainability hubs, which we at Veolia call “Ecofactories.” Read this in-depth feature on Veolia's Ecofactory approach in the latest issue of Environmental Journal at https://lnkd.in/ehn9G6JK

The #US has big plans to increase #water quality to protect citizens’ health thanks to new regulations on drinking water. 🇺🇸 We are the one-stop shop that will effectively enable cities and industries to succeed! 💧 This includes diagnosing regulated PFAS pollutant presence in drinking water, providing adequate treatment solutions, and handling the hazardous waste that may contain them. We know how to do all three! 🚰 We have not been sitting idle before the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced reinforced standards. ➡️ Veolia has already treated a cumulative 2.1 billion gallons of water in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania across more than 30 sites. And, we have more than 50 additional projects at various stages to meet the new standards. ➡️ Up to 6,000 public drinking water providers in the US will need help to align with the new regulations, and #PFAS removal is estimated to have a $250bn market potential. We are here to meet the increase in demand, in line with the purpose of our #GreenUp plan: to protect people's health through our innovative solutions. It was great to see things moving on the ground and meet our key partners this week. It is always a blast to be here, feeling the enthusiasm and energy behind our new projects. Let’s keep the ball rolling! 🔗 Financial Times interview: https://lnkd.in/edV4numA
