This July, during Parks & Recreation Month, we recognize the teams that work hard to make our parks welcoming and enjoyable! Our rangers handle park security, interact with visitors and lead educational tours. The maintenance team keeps our parks clean and well-maintained, looking after facilities and our landscapes. Let's not forget about our seasonal staff who bring joy and excitement during the summer months! Join us in recognizing their hard work and appreciating their efforts by visiting Cane Creek Park. Participate in our Park Passport Program and explore 10 parks within Union County. For details, ucgov.info/park-passport. If you are interested in joining this awesome team, we are actively hiring lifeguards at Cane Creek Park!

💻 Our newly formed Broadband Committee met for the first time this week! They kicked off the process of helping the County could continue efforts to expand high-speed internet access to residents and businesses. Earlier this year, our IT, Planning, and Strategy and Innovation departments selected residents from various professions who will develop a broadband plan to present to the Board of County Commissioners. They will discuss a range of topics including affordability, accessibility, funding, and education and outreach for unserved or underserved areas. 📅 Meetings will be the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Government Center at 6 p.m. Thank you to these dedicated volunteers. We look forward to hearing their ideas! 💡

Join us in congratulating three of our Fire Marshal's teammates, Deputy Fire Marshal John Helms, Assistant Fire Marshal Chad Baucom, and Administrative Professional Beth Belk, for earning the National Child Passenger Safety Certification! Last week, they completed a 32 hour certification class hosted at the Hemby Bridge Fire Department by Safe Kids North Carolina and the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal. They will now be able to use this knowledge and expertise at a variety of community-based activities, such as child safety seat checks, where parents and caregivers receive education and hands-on assistance.
