Happy Anniversary to Tomorrow-R1! 🛰️ 🚀 This month marks one year since Tomorrow.io's groundbreaking and historic launch of the world’s first commercially built weather-radar satellite. Tomorrow-R1 was our first successful on-orbit operation and marked the first step in deploying the Tomorrow.io constellation of active and passive weather sensors. This constellation will achieve breakthroughs in global weather forecasting and climate observation, bringing near real-time scans of precipitation and atmospheric profiles for any point on Earth. 🌎 Since our first satellite launch, we have seen and done even more exciting things. #WhyWeatherMatters Last week, TomorrowNow.org and our private sector tech partner Tomorrow.io had the incredible opportunity to visit Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation HQ in Seattle🇺🇸 for an insightful lunch-and-learn session to brainstorm ideas around bolstering investments in next-gen weather services with a focus on scale and impact for African smallholder farmers in Africa. The teams from TomorrowNow.org & Tomorrow.io were thrilled to share learnings from our experience providing access to actionable weather insights to 4.8M smallholder farmers in Kenya🇰🇪 leveraging partnership with KALRO FARMING, and focused the discussion with our hosts around the following key themes: 🔹 The Urgency of Building Climate Resilience: We discussed the pressing need to enhance climate resilience for 100 million Africans by the year 2030. This ambitious goal highlights the critical role of effective strategies and technologies in helping farmers adapt to the rapidly changing climate and mitigate its impacts on food security. 🔹 Enhancing Agricultural Productivity: Access to analysis-ready weather data by farmer-facing organizations is a key pain point that we must address.Fortunately, we have the partnerships & tech ready to leapfrog current efforts towards building decision support tools that benefit stakeholders and end-user farmers. Our partner Tomorrow.io’s cutting-edge weather intelligence is one such example of a weather forecasting technology that can significantly improve agricultural productivity by providing farmers with accurate, localized weather data, enabling them to make informed decisions and optimize their farming practices. 🔹 Scalable and Sustainable Solutions: The discussion also covered the importance of developing scalable and sustainable solutions tailored to the needs of smallholder farmers. What's the weather like this week? 🌦️ ☀️ Tomorrow.io's meteorologists have their eyes on the skies and are tracking notable weather conditions across the U.S. Here's this week's highlights: 🌩️ Thunderstorm Activity: Northeast US & Ohio Valley: Prepare for several rounds of showers and thunderstorms as a series of low-pressure systems traverse the Eastern US throughout the week. Southeast (Carolinas to Georgia): Similar conditions with frequent showers and thunderstorms are anticipated due to the same systems affecting the Northeast. Upper Midwest (Dakotas & Minnesota): Thunderstorms continue through Wednesday, then expect a shift towards drier conditions from Thursday to Saturday. Another round of storms is on the horizon for Sunday. Central & Southern Rockies: Daily afternoon thunderstorms are forecasted, persisting into the upcoming weekend. 🌡️ Temperature Fluctuations: Western US: Continued heatwave with temperatures soaring to 105-110°F in some parts of the Southwest throughout the week. Texas: Experiencing a hotter and drier spell, with afternoon highs consistently in the 90s and nearing the 100°F mark in some areas. 🌀 Tropics Watch: Central Atlantic: Monitoring a disturbance east of the Lesser Antilles, with no immediate threat to the Continental US.
