Substance use disorders (SUDs) are considered a matter of mental health and are treatable as are other mental health disorders. This month-long observance highlights the importance of recognizing these conditions as critical health issues that deserve accessible and comprehensive treatment. Mental health and substance use disorders are prevalent and can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. Despite their widespread impact, these conditions often remain shrouded in stigma, preventing many individuals from seeking the help they need. Recognizing mental health and SUDs as vital health matters is essential for several reasons. Untreated mental health and substance use disorders can lead to severe consequences, including deteriorating physical health, strained relationships, and diminished well-being. By acknowledging these disorders as significant health concerns, society can push for better healthcare policies, increased funding for treatment programs, and broader access to necessary services. To end the stigma associated with mental health and SUDs, it's crucial to promote open and honest conversations about these issues. Education plays a key role in this effort. What an awesome visit with James from Alpas Wellness here on “Casual Friday” at The Valley Residential Treatment Center. They’re a new, beautiful inpatient rehabilitation program with inpatient detoxification in Maryland that will be offering their services to the growing population of those that need treatment for Alcohol and Substance Use Disorders and Co-Occuring Disorders.
