What a recent client had to say about The Valley! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ "4 months of sobriety and a birthday are quickly approaching and I would not have made it to either of them without the help of The Valley. My daughter saved my life when she dropped me off there for treatment, but The Valley Staff taught me how to live again and gave me the tools to navigate life. At The Valley I was safe, I was respected, I was cared for but I was held accountable, I was educated, I was challenged and I was reminded I was worthy to be loved. And I was loved till I learned to love myself. The staff said they would always be there for me and they were, they still are. The best way I can say thank you is to stay sober and pay it forward and help another addict and this I will keep doing." We value the words of this client so much and really love what they had to say about paying it forward! We’re so lucky to be a part of lifting up others and we’ll keep paying it forward, too! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about mental health. Mental health disorders affect the quality of life of an individual and require proper treatment to facilitate recovery. Substance use disorders (SUDs) are considered a matter of mental health and are treatable as are other mental health disorders. This month-long observance highlights the importance of recognizing these conditions as critical health issues that deserve accessible and comprehensive treatment. Mental health and substance use disorders are prevalent and can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. Despite their widespread impact, these conditions often remain shrouded in stigma, preventing many individuals from seeking the help they need. Recognizing mental health and SUDs as vital health matters is essential for several reasons. Untreated mental health and substance use disorders can lead to severe consequences, including deteriorating physical health, strained relationships, and diminished well-being. By acknowledging these disorders as significant health concerns, society can push for better healthcare policies, increased funding for treatment programs, and broader access to necessary services. To end the stigma associated with mental health and SUDs, it's crucial to promote open and honest conversations about these issues. Education plays a key role in this effort. Schools, workplaces, and community organizations can provide resources and training to help people understand that mental health disorders and SUDs are medical conditions, not character flaws. Sharing personal stories and experiences can also help humanize these issues and reduce misconceptions. The benefits of mental health and SUD treatment extend beyond the individual. For those directly affected, receiving proper treatment can lead to improved emotional and physical well-being, greater stability, and the ability to lead fulfilling lives. On a community level, effective treatment reduces the overall burden on healthcare systems, decreases the number of deaths associated with alcohol and other substances, and fosters a more supportive and productive environment. This Mental Health Awareness Month, let's commit to ending the stigma, supporting those in need, and advocating for accessible and equitable treatment for everyone. #mentalhealthishealth #mentalhealthmatters #breakthestigma #endthestigma #samhsa #handup #helpothers #healing #narcansaveslives

What an awesome visit with James from Alpas Wellness here on “Casual Friday” at The Valley Residential Treatment Center. They’re a new, beautiful inpatient rehabilitation program with inpatient detoxification in Maryland that will be offering their services to the growing population of those that need treatment for Alcohol and Substance Use Disorders and Co-Occuring Disorders. We welcome another great program to the region and are so glad that the reach of help for those in need is expanding. Thanks, James!

When it comes to the treatment of substance use disorder (SUD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD) are there differences in how these addictions are treated? There most cutting edge evidence based treatment modalities are similar, but not necessarily the same. Here's how we differentiate between the two and make sure our clients are receiving the best possible care.
