  • In May, the European Council approved the EU AI Act. Its impact will extend far beyond Europe, highlighting the borderless nature of cyberspace. Hon. Manisha Singh, the Krach Institute’s AI National Security Fellow, noted that as authoritarian regimes develop #AI under state control and “impose no limits on how quickly or ruthlessly they develop and deploy AI to gain a dystopian advantage,” it is essential for innovators in the US and the free world to lead in the AI race. A unified approach that includes the adoption of a Global Trusted Tech Standard may be part of the solution. We take a closer look at the EU AI Act.

I had an opportunity to represent the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue at the recent Cyber Week TLV and AI Week TLV. My main point: Freedom is under attack around the world—in Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan and beyond—and trusted technology is the key to preserving it. As the Institute's co-founder and Chairman Keith Krach always points out, TRUST is the most important word in any language. It's the foundation of every relationship—personal, business, or political. If all of us in the free world rally together to embed trust in tech, freedom cannot be extinguished.

🚀 Semiconductor Updates from the Hard Tech Corridor! The CHIPS and Science Act has catalyzed significant investments in semiconductor manufacturing and R&D in Indiana, contributing to the growth of the Hard Tech Corridor, a 65-mile stretch from Indianapolis to West Lafayette. The region has become a hub for technological advancements in semiconductor manufacturing, biopharma, aerospace, and transportation.  Recent updates surrounding the Hard Tech Corridor: 1. On July 9th, 2024, Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced at the #SEMICONWest conference that Indiana will host the first-ever SEMIEXPO In The Heartland in April 2025. The event will bring semiconductor industry leaders and policymakers to Indianapolis, showcasing Indiana's commitment to fostering semiconductor innovation.    2. South Korean firm SK hynix announced an investment of $3.87 billion to establish its first U.S. advanced chip packaging facility in West Lafayette, Indiana. The facility will begin operations in 2028 and is expected to create over 1,000 direct jobs. The facility will produce high-bandwidth memory chips which are crucial components in Nvidia GPUs.    3. On January 19th, 2024, NHanced Semiconductors, Inc. inaugurated the NHanced WestGate Facility in Odon, Indiana. This advanced packaging assembly center, part of the WestGate One complex, features two cleanrooms for semiconductor assembly and process development. WestGate One, a ten-acre multi-company complex built specifically for semiconductor innovation, is expected to generate over 500 jobs.  Other Investments at WestGate One: 4. Arizona firm Everspin Technologies has announced a 10,000 square foot fabrication and research site, specializing in Magnetoresistive RAM (MRAM) for next-generation defense applications. The project aims to create 35 jobs by the end of 2027.     5. Minnesota-based firm Trusted Semiconductor Solutions is investing $34 million in an integrated circuits (IC) manufacturing facility, focusing on aerospace, defense, and industrial automation applications. The investment will create 40 jobs by 2027.  6. Reliable MicroSystems, LLC, headquartered in Tennessee, has announced a $7.3 million investment to expand its operations to Indiana, supporting the development of high-reliability electronics for mission-critical applications. The expansion will create 61 jobs.    TalentCraft is uniquely equipped to support the growth of the Hard Tech Corridor due to our comprehensive understanding of Indiana’s labor market. Additionally, TalentCraft’s partnerships with leading technology and research organizations such as the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue, ARI (Applied Research Institute), SEMI, and Semiconductor Research Corporation position us at the forefront of growth, enabling us to effectively connect skilled talent with expanding opportunities in the Hard Tech Corridor. #Semiconductors #HardTechCorridor #Indiana #WestGateOne #CHIPSAct #SEMIEXPO

  • Happy Independence Day! So many have risked and sacrificed their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to defend freedom. On this day we come together to celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms we cherish. As fireworks light up the sky, let's remember the bravery and vision of those who fought for our independence and continue to shape our country into a beacon of hope and opportunity. Today, in our tech dominant age, we must continue to choose freedom and ensure that technology advances it.

America’s 248th Independence Day is a reminder of the timeless truth that freedom is hard-won. At Purdue University’s “CHIPS for America: Execute for Global Success” Summit recently held at the U.S. Senate, Michelle Giuda, CEO of the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue, outlines what it will take to maintain a safe, free and prosperous future defined in almost every way by new technology.   The imperative? The U.S. and its allies must compete and win against our adversaries in critical and emerging tech – but there is a fundamental difference between playing to win versus playing to not lose.

  • Mr. Ambassador, we are grateful for your leadership and the U.S. Department of State’s adoption of the Krach Institute’s Tech Diplomacy Academy—techdiplomacyacademy.org. U.S. Ambassador at Large for Cyberspace & Digital Policy (personal account)

The U.S. will only have strong, smart technology diplomacy if it has strong, smart technology diplomats. Eric Geller embedded in our course at the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Institute and wrote about it in WIRED. "From Russian election interference to Chinese industrial dominance, the US faces a panoply of digital threats. Fighting back will require skillful diplomatic pressure campaigns on every level, from bilateral talks with individual countries to sweeping appeals before the 193-member United Nations. But this kind of work is only possible when the career Foreign Service officers on the front lines of US diplomacy understand why tech and cyber issues matter—and how to discuss them." Thanks to Maryum Saifee, Kathryn Smith Fitrell, Melanie Kaplan, Eileen Donahoe JD, Ph.D, Christopher Painter, Keith Krach, Joan Polaschik, Richard Verma and the many others who've made this innovative training possible. https://lnkd.in/gqqfm9-7
