Recently TEACH.org partnered with the U.S. Department of Education and The Hunt Institute to host convenings for state policy-makers to develop solutions to eliminate educator shortages. 25 states sent delegations to learn best practices for improving teacher recruitment and retention and to think big about how to eliminate educator shortages. Cross-sector teams from each state shared and learned about strategies to increase educator compensation, diversity, and access to affordable, high-quality educator preparation programs. The state delegations had dedicated working time to develop key strategies and action plans they could take to advance progress on challenges. Thank you to everyone who attended and brought forward ideas to help us move this important work forward.

This past week, ED joined with The Hunt Institute & Teach.org, for the second of three Regional Convenings to Support State Action to Advance the Education Professions. Teams from 10 states and D.C. — from the Midwest to the Northeast — came together in Chicago to learn from each other about effective efforts by states to increase educator compensation, expand access to high-quality and affordable pathways into the education professions, and increase educator diversity. Building off this and the first convening of Western states in Albuquerque, this week the team heads to Jackson, Mississippi for the final convening of Southern states.
