- Following Beryl’s landfall yesterday, its second act was the tornado outbreak it produced across parts of northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas and eastern Texas. As seen on map 1 below, there was a record-setting 110 tornado warnings issued yesterday which is the most for any July day. While there were only 15 tornado reports, we will get survey results beginning today. - Tropical tornadoes are very common with landfalling systems, but they are often brief and isolated in nature. Beryl will go down as being one of the most prolific tornado-producing tropical systems on record. #consultmonarch🌐

‣ Current status: Beryl is a disorganized tropical storm, currently fighting wind shear and ingesting dry air. Because of these factors, Beryl is expected to remain disorganized today, with any strengthening not expected to begin until tomorrow. ‣ Forecast: models overnight continued the rightward shift in the track. An incredible shift of about 250 miles compared to this time yesterday. It is still forecast to ramp back up to a hurricane on approach to landfall on the Texas coast. ‣ Timing: as the track continues to shift right, this will delay landfall Monday. Now most likely in the mid-morning to midday time. ‣ Impacts will begin being felt before landfall, with tropical storm force winds and rain from outer bands likely along the Texas coast by Sunday morning for Brownsville and Corpus Christi and by Sunday night for the upper Texas coast. ‣ The risk for flooding rainfall is increasing quickly for Houston. 4-6” of rain now being forecast which matches up well with where the moderate risk for flash flooding is already up for Monday.
Beryl Makes Landfall as CAT 1 Hurricane! Beryl restrengthened into a hurricane late Sunday night and made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, around 4:00 a.m. CDT. Beryl will continue to bring damaging winds, storm surge and inland flooding, and even a few possible tornadoes to parts of the southern Mississippi Valley today. Beryl's impacts will be felt beyond Texas as the storm will spread north & east through the central U.S. and eventually the Great Lakes region, bringing heavy rain and a continued risk for tornado outbreaks.
