The Sheriff’s Underwater Search Unit, commonly known as the “Dive Team” was developed in 1965 for underwater evidence searches, rescue missions for victims of water-related incidents, and removal of nuisance items. CALLING ALL CRIME-FIGHTERS! Do YOU want to make a difference in the community? Following a two-month-long investigation, deputies made two arrests in a highly sophisticated fuel and identity theft ring. Hundreds of gallons of siphoned gas, credit card skimmers, and $44,000 in cash were recovered. It started with an identity theft victim reporting their credit card had been used at Safeway, despite not shopping there. Remember, if you see something suspicious, say something! The suspects are accused of using stolen credit card data to buy thousands of gallons of gas from County of Santa Clara fuel stations. Investigators found it was stored inside large, 300-gallon containers in a box truck at the Port of Oakland, and later sold to customers. So far, more than $90,000 in stolen fuel has been accounted for. Our team is serious about preventing organized retail theft. We're looking for more dedicated deputies to join us. We’re very honored and proud that our Elmwood Correctional Facility received the Pro Bono Project Silicon Valley’s Lady Justice Innovates “Partner of the Year” award. It recognizes our efforts to improve outcomes for those who are incarcerated, plan for reentry to the community, and prevent recidivism. The Santa Clara County Office of the Sheriff’s Restorative Services Division has long partnered with Pro Bono Project to bring cost-free legal services to clients. Rehabilitation Officers screen and send referrals, coordinate presentations, and connect those affected by the justice system to attorneys. A MURAL’S MESSAGE: Transformation, Freedom, Forgiveness, and Redemption Foothill College taught students at Elmwood Correctional Facilities #community mural painting. They learned the role murals have played in social activism, how to visually tell stories, and the overall creative process. Over 12 weeks, students narrowed their focus to include personal experiences and imagery as inspiration to transform their past lives into more positive ones. We proudly welcomed five new Reserve Deputies last month! They were sworn in by Sheriff Robert Jonsen and joined us because they wanted to give back to the community!
