Happy Independence Day! Salazar Law is grateful that Papa Salazar embraced our nation’s entrepreneurial spirit and made a point to instill the same in our founder Luis Salazar. As Luis recently told Authority Magazine writer Eric L. Pines: “You can say that leading my own law firm has its roots in our family’s small business. I was 9 when I began working with my father at our family dry-cleaning business in Washington Heights, New York. I will never forget the years I spent working shoulder-to-shoulder with him, 14 hours a day, six days a week, fighting for our piece of the American dream. I admired how my dad grew his own business, developed loyal customers, and really made a connection with everyone who walked into his shop. I decided to launch my own firm so I could bring that same commitment to my clients. I remember when I told my father that I was leaving my cushy big firm job to start my own firm. He was so proud I was following in his footsteps." So are we! Call me crazy, but I love being called for jury duty. I welcome the chance to perform my civic duty and give back to the legal system that is central to my life. And I am grateful for the chance to get a juror's view of the entire process because it makes me a better trial lawyer. Last week, I got the chance to serve and, in a delightful coincidence, my sister, Lourdes Salazar, was called the same day! The staff at the clerk's office made the experience as easy as possible and, ICYMI, Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts recently won the Crown Communities Award for its innovative approach to jury selection.
