The Digital Mammography DREAM Challenge sourced algorithms from volunteer participants that could help transform cancer diagnosis. The result? Some of these participants took their winning algorithm and developed a new full clinical technology for detecting breast cancer – one that went on to receive FDA-approval. This is the power of biomedical challenges and benchmarking. If you want to see how these challenges are run, how to participate, and how to win, join us for our free benchmarking and breakfast event during Seattle Tech Week (Tuesday, July 30) Register here: https://lu.ma/uo7xumku #seattletechweek #seattle #AI #ML #benchmarking #citizenscience

Seattle people! Tech Week is coming up! And you won't want to skip breakfast... 🥐 On Tuesday July 30, come visit us for Breakfast & Benchmarking. At this free event, come learn how you can be part of a citizen science movement that is helping to solve some of medicine's biggest mysteries. We've organized over 60 biomedical data "challenges" - public contests where the winning algorithm can lead to prize money, journal publications, or an FDA-approved technology. Drop in for breakfast with our Challenges & Benchmarking team and see how you can contribute to our collective intelligence 🧠 Register NOW: https://lu.ma/uo7xumku #citizenscience #benchmarking #seattletechweek #techweek #challenges #bettersciencetogether

In a recent podcast, Sage Bionetworks' Trisha M. Zintel, BA, PhD tells us all about her past life as an illustrator, a day in the (current) life as a data curator, and what we need to know when it comes to sharing and reusing data to accelerate Alzheimer's research!
So we have biomedical data…but then what’s metadata? Trisha M. Zintel, BA, PhD tells me about the importance of capturing metadata when it comes to making data available to researchers for reuse. Trish is part of a team of biomedical data curators at Sage Bionetworks. She ensures that the right data about Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions is shared and maintained so that new discoveries can be advanced to benefit patients. As the explosion in artificial intelligence is leveraged in biomedical discovery and patient care, we must recognize the significant potential risks to human safety, privacy, and justice. In an attempt to address these issues, the National Academy of Medicine’s Steering Committee on AI in Health, Health Care, and Biomedical Science recently drafted a Code of Conduct framework. We review the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of the code’s principles and commitments in our latest pubpub article. https://lnkd.in/gcDy2frF What are your perspectives on the framework. We’d love to hear from you! 👇 #AI #codeofconduct #dataprivacy #governance Ann Kim Novakowski Megan Doerr, LGC Susheel Varma

In bioinformatics, the integrity and accuracy of your data are paramount. But there has been a lack of comprehensive, opinionated data validation frameworks tailored for common bioinformatics file formats. This is the problem that DCQC (Data Coordination Quality Control) solves – a new testing framework developed for our data platform Synapse. With this framework, users can get clarity on the validity of their files in a way that is simple, scalable and lightning fast. Learn more about how DCQC works and how you can add it to your workflows: https://lnkd.in/giwQXrpA #datasharing #validation #bioinformatics #qualitycontrol #datacoordination
