Thank you to our own Dr. Sonia Bhatia who is in Texas to provide disaster mental health support to shelter residents and impacted individuals who may be facing an intensely stressful time after Hurricane Beryl. A licensed therapist, she talks with people about their experiences, stress levels and coping skills. During large disasters, some of our most-needed volunteer roles include supporting shelters and providing health services. You can learn more about these opportunities, eligibility criteria and training at rdcrss.org/4cU7Ep7.

Days after Hurricane Beryl touched down in Texas, flooding communities and causing massive power outages, Red Cross disaster teams are focused on supporting the growing need for emergency shelter as people seek relief from continuing extreme heat. Read from our Vice President of Disaster Operations and Logistics Brad Kieserman about what communities are facing after the storm and how you can help in this #LinkedInArticle. You can help people affected by Hurricane Beryl in the United States by making a donation at https://rdcrss.org/3Lkxfew, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or texting 'BERYL’ to 90999 to make a $10 donation. #HurricaneBeryl #DisasterRelief #DisasterResponse

Michael from Tampa drove one of our regional emergency response vehicles to Texas in advance of Beryl, and is now working in triple-digit heat indices to deliver emergency relief supplies like cans of water to community distribution sites. We are grateful for each and every one of these heroes working to help alleviate human suffering.

Learning hands-only CPR can save a life! It was such a great opportunity for our volunteers to teach this lifesaving technique at a drowning prevention event in Kissimmee. Huge thanks to the Team Kareem Memorial Foundation for inviting us. If your company or organization would like to schedule a free hands-only CPR presentation, please complete the form at this link: rdcrss.org/38JHVkj 📸 Credit: Elena Torrealba, Volunteer

Tornadoes can happen at any time of year -- and in Florida, that can mean during hurricane season. Our local volunteers were onsite after this one touched down in Melbourne a couple weeks ago. You can help people affected by disasters like storms and countless other crises at redcross.org.

Over the holiday weekend, the Summerset apartments in Orlando experienced a fire affecting 8 units. Special thanks to Orange County Government Fire Rescue for its lifesaving work, and to our volunteers who rushed to provide comfort and immediate assistance for 23 individuals (including 7 children). #HelpCantWait

The threat from a hurricane like Beryl isn't over when the storm makes landfall. Damaging rain, wind gusts and flash flooding continue. Understanding the potential hazards of a particular storm, regardless of the category, is important.

Current projections show Beryl going into Texas early next week. The Red Cross is moving disaster workers and resources into potential impact areas over the holiday weekend. Leia & Ray Ramey left today from Tampa for their 1st deployment! They are among more than a dozen Central Florida-based responders anticipated to mobilize by air and ground. Updates on the Beryl response can be found at redcross.org/news.
