We are reflecting on the transformative experience in D.C. when PBFA members and staff gathered to lobby for the plant-based foods industry on Capitol Hill last month. Our asks at Capitol Hill were simple but essential: 🌱 Oppose restrictive labeling laws that hinder innovation and limit consumer choice. 🌱 Urge President Biden to increase plant-based options in federal facilities. 🌱 Support the PLANT Act to make USDA programs accessible to plant-based farmers and companies. Powering progress for the plant-based food industry is also powering progress for our entire food system. We are proud to continue working towards a more equitable and sustainable food system in collaboration with the strong voices of our members. This work is ongoing and always a collaborative effort. Thank you School Nutrition Association for the incredible forum to discuss increasing access to plant-based foods in school foods. PBFA's CEO Rachel Dreskin moderated a fireside chat with Peter McGuinness, of member company Impossible Foods, and Kevin Frank, MBA, SNS, of Detroit Public Schools. We look forward to further collaboration to expand nutritious, planet-friendly meal options for students.
Great to be in Boston this week for the School Nutrition Association's Annual Nutrition Conference, alongside our partners Kevin Frank, MBA, SNS from Detroit Public Schools and Rachel Dreskin from Plant Based Foods Association. K-12 schools are serving delicious, nutrient-dense meals to approximately 30 million students every day. School nutrition directors are on the frontlines of the future of food, and it's important that we step up as an industry make it easier for them to expand access to plant-based options. Bg thanks to Fletcher Johnson, Caitlyn Hatman, Brandon Williams, and Megan (Collins) Krogius for serving up samples of our Child Nutrition-Labeled products, including Teriyaki Impossible Meatballs (a huge hit!), Whole Grain Impossible Chicken Nuggets and our Fully Cooked Impossible Burger Patty. And shoutout to our partners at The D.D. Reckner Co. and A.J. Letizio Sales & Marketing, Inc for all the support!
