This was such a fantastic lineup for a #sustainabletravel discussion I moderated at Phocuswright Europe. It focused heavily on finding a balance between high economic yields from tourism and livability for locals (not an issue we'll solve overnight, but one our leaders are thinking critically about). I am also proud to announce that this helped me accomplish my super secret goal of reducing the degrees of connection between myself and Prince Harry. Top takeaways from each panelist: - Sally Davey of Travalyst: Embracing the pillars of good communication is absolutely fundamental, or tourists will not understand the broader impact of their choices. - Mateu Hernandez Maluquer of Consorci de Turisme de Barcelona: Marketers need to encourage travelers to see their choices as investments, with all the mindfulness (and care for a product) that investments entail. We live in a world where people put more research into buying a $1000 iPhone than where they go with their $1000 plane ticket. - Shannon Guihan of the The Travel Corporation: Tourism isn't meant to just "happen" to a place. Managers and stakeholders need to co-create their model -- and they will see early warning signs of issues and opportunities to correct in more collaborative environments. https://lnkd.in/ePWXAWPT
