PHFE WIC is the largest local WIC agency in the US, with 39 offices serving 180,000 people in Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Bernardino County. The Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program is a supplemental nutrition program to help pregnant people, infants and children (up to age five) eat well, and build healthy habits for life. WIC employs Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, Certified Lactation Educators, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).

A recent policy brief developed by the Nutrition Policy Institute, PHFE WIC, and University of California, Davis Department of Nutrition researchers reveals that an increase in #WIC cash value benefit led to an increase in the redemption amount and diversity of fruits and vegetables 🥕🍅🍏 purchased by #WIC families. The team at PHFE WIC, a program of Heluna Health, distributed more than 2,000 free children’s books and more than 400 $30 checks for fresh fruits and vegetables at the Adams and Vermont Certified Farmer’s Market last Wednesday. PHFE WIC staff members were joined by men’s basketball players from the University of Southern California, who volunteered their time to hand out books and greet families. USC men’s basketball student-athletes completed their first #NIL engagement with House of Victory at the Adams Vermont Farmer’s Market. 2024 FMNP! The terrific PHFEWIC team had an incredibly successful first week of the annual Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) check distribution. With 19,000 checks allocated to our program we have followed the very successful model of bringing WIC families TO the FM to receive and immediately redeem their FMNP checks. (I’m each eligible family gets one $30 check). In 2024 we will be on site at 13 Farmers Markets across LA and OC ( www.phfewic.org). This FMNP program is a win-win for WIC families and local farmers. The WIC match ($20-$30) available at most LAC FMs gives our families an additional bonus that is priceless! Our first week: over 2,500 checks distributed; the potential for $75,000 worth vegetables and fruits to be bought at 7 markets. Pics from the East LA FM
