It taught me time in the office doesn't equal productivity. It enhanced my communication skills - sync and async. It made me more adaptable and resilient. It helped me to be more data driven. Employee engagement is complex and it's *not* "an HR thing". If the basics are in place (treating people well and paying them fairly and aligned with your strategy) there is a lot that can be done to improve engagement that doesn't cost a thing. Here are some of my highlights: ❤️ Met my wonderful colleague and friend Monique van der Walt for the first time in person after working together for more than 2 years 🐧 Made lots of penguin friends 🌉 Bungee-jumped off Bloukrans bridge 🦁 Saw all of the Big Five 🏞️ Did some of the most beautiful hiking trails I've ever seen I don't have words for how grateful I am to have a job that allows me to do extended travels like this one through #workfromanywhere 🙏 When I'm traveling I also have the best ideas and thoughts so I have a ton of "notes to self" to go through. 2024 is gonna be GREAT 💫 We're in the middle of 2024 planning but sometimes it feels like everything is urgent and important in the People space 😅 What helps me focus on the "big bets" and the initiatives that will have the biggest impact (hopefully) is to revisit and update our Mission, KPIs, and Working Principles with my team. Reverse engineering from why we do what we do, which metrics we want to impact, and how we want our Passioneers and applicants to feel about Passion.io. This year we will focus even more on continuous discovery through structured customer interviews (with team members and candidates) to learn from them and stay agile in our approach.
