Built in 1898, this Manhattan School is an outstanding example of Charles B.J. Snyder’s Collegiate Gothic style. As such, it features a main pitched roof clad in terra cotta tiles with a copper-clad cupola and dormers, all supported by a structure of cast-iron girders and terra cotta arches. When this 100+ year-old roofing system required remediation, the SCA secured SUPERSTRUCTURES to conduct the restoration. The project included: steel reinforcement; complete replacement of the clay tile main roof; replacement of roof membrane systems; installation of flashing at all perimeters, penetrations, and curbs; dormer copper replacement; replacement of all copper gutters and leader boxes; roof-mounted snow guard and railing installation; and repair of water-damaged interior finishes.
