In conjunction with the U.S. Committee on the Marine Transportation System, we are seeking information from port managers, planners, engineers and academics to identify what types of planning guidance, data, and federal funding opportunities are currently being utilized in planning for long-term environmental change in U.S. ports. About us
Welcome! NOAA's National Ocean Service (NOS) is the nation’s premier federal science agency for our ocean and coasts. NOS is one of six major divisions within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which is housed within the U.S. Department of Commerce. NOS is the nation’s most comprehensive coastal agency with world-class expertise in science, technology, and management. Offices and staff are located throughout the country. NOS conducts applied research and employs advanced surveying, observing, modeling, and computing technologies to provide services and tools that inform federal, state, and local decision making. The agency leads national partnerships to address and balance economic and environmental needs and conducts extensive outreach to ensure its services are meeting priorities. NOS is also a trustee for the long-term conservation of coastal resources, including response and restoration for oil and chemical spills. *Interested in working for NOAA? As Hurricane Beryl made landfall, the tide station at Manchester, Texas, which dates back to 1998, measured a peak water level of 8.79 feet above mean higher high water (MHHW). Largely driven by heavy rainfall runoff in the area, this was the second highest water level ever recorded at this station, behind only Hurricane Harvey (2017). Nearby, the station at Morgans Point, Texas, which dates back to 1993, recorded a peak water level of 5.54 feet above MHHW. This was also the second highest water level on record for this station, behind only Hurricane Ike (2008). Just in: NOAA is forecasting a moderate to larger-than-moderate Harmful Algal Bloom for western Lake Erie this summer. This year’s bloom is expected to measure 5, with a potential range of 4.5 to 6 on the severity index — similar to last year’s bloom which measured at a 5.3. https://lnkd.in/eM6Yprnb Partners in this effort: Noaa Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research Heidelberg University Ohio Sea Grant, National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center #HarmfulAlgalBloom #LakeErie #HABs #LakeErieHAB
