Founded in 1929, we are an NCI-designated Cancer Center since 1983 and an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit research organization with over 90 years of experience in genetics and genomics research. JAX blends the brightest minds with state-of-the-art resources to accelerate discovery. Areas of Discovery (75+ Principal Investigators, >250 Ph.D.s, M.D.s, and D.V.M.s): • Cancer: We are a National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center focusing on cancer initiation, progression, prevention and therapies. • Developmental/reproductive biology: birth defects, Down syndrome, osteoporosis, fertility • Immunology: HIV-AIDS, anemia, autoimmunity, cancer immunology, immune disorders, lupus, transplant rejection • Metabolic diseases: atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, microbiome • Neurobiology: blindness, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, deafness, epilepsy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, neurodegenerative diseases • Neurobehavioral disorders: autism, addiction, depression Supporting Global Research: • The JAX Mouse Repository and Scientific Services are among the premier resources available for biomedical research. Committed to Education: • Summer Student Program (undergrad & high school) • Teaching the Genome Generation Short Course • Ph.D. programs: U. Maine, Tufts University and U. Join us in Hamburg, Germany! JAX is excited to sponsor an Innovation Showcase at #ISSCR2024 on July 12 at 12 p.m., CEST, in Hall, 3 Entrance Level. JAX Professor Bill Skarnes will talk about our high-efficiency precision genome editing platform and how it is being utilized for large-scale engineering projects in #iPSCs. We are also thrilled to have Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network (San Francisco) Scientist Camille Januel, PhD, join us to discuss her approach to iPSC organelle tagging using #CRISPR to study the effects of various disease-associated mutations at the cellular level. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn and connect with leading experts! Learn more about JAX's iPSC catalog here: https://bit.ly/3zvjoiG

JAX's Jason Bubier and colleagues have published research in Microbiome, from BMC. It shows that sodium valerate supplementation, with its ability to reduce binge drinking and anxiety-like behaviors in mice, offers a promising new avenue for treating alcohol use disorders. This underscores the critical role of the gut #microbiome in #addiction and highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting the gut-brain axis:

JAX Center for Addiction Biology researchers Elissa J. Chesler, PhD, and Jason Bubier were recently interviewed by WABI TV 5. In this segment they discuss how using multiple mouse strains, they have seen trends similar to humans when it comes to susceptibility of #addiction and overdose, and how the likelihood of developing substance use disorder is not only biological, but that environment also plays a factor:
