GridStor’s team comes from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, each adding depth and perspective to our collective GridStory. The women at our company have unique stories to tell, and we’re excited to introduce you to them. Meet Kelly Brown, Executive Assistant and Office Manager, who celebrates her birthday today! Kelly has always cared about the environment, but a career in clean energy wasn’t on her early radar. A theatre and English major in college, she began her professional life in the nonprofit arts sector, working for theatre companies, in arts management and then higher education. After making a career change into the technology and cloud storage industry, she pivoted once again to battery energy storage when the role with GridStor became available. “One of my favorite things about my line of work is supporting interesting projects that have a big impact. I like that GridStor is a local company intentionally rooted in Portland, with national influence. Climate change worries me, and it’s easy to feel hopeless and powerless as an individual, but as a company we are pursuing cutting edge technology solutions to this crisis and addressing the challenge in a meaningful way. It’s exciting to be working alongside so many smart people who know how to make these efforts succeed.” Kelly credits her arts background for preparing her to thrive in a startup environment. “Coming from theatre, I can trace a lot of my professional skills back to the stage. As a performer, you have to work collaboratively with a team, and no one is precious about their own contributions because we all understand that the sum of what we can produce together is greater than the individual parts.” Her advice to others looking to make a career transition comes down to two core principles. First, be open to new opportunities and don’t let a current lack of knowledge or core experience dissuade you from trying. Second, commit to learning what you don’t know. “Even people who have been in an industry for a long time are still learning and sharing with one another. Regardless of your background, know that you always have something to contribute. Nonlinear paths can make you a strong asset to a team.” #CleanEnergy #WomenInEnergy #BatteryEnergyStorage #StartupLife #CareerChange #ClimateTech #EnergyTransition

Last week we gathered with nearly 700 peers at the American Clean Power Association (ACP)'s RECHARGE conference - a number ACP notes represents about one out of every hundred people employed in energy storage. As a company, we're thankful to ACP for bringing together so many advocates and providing opportunities to speak about the future of our growing industry. We also congratulate ACP on the launch of EnergyStorage.org, an educational and safety-focused resource covering the benefits of battery energy storage technology. Go take a look! #ThankYou #ACPRECHARGE24 #EnergyStorage Chris Taylor

The U.S. has an acute need for more infrastructure. GridStor CEO Chris Taylor explains the importance of faster interconnection, and the demand driving storage, on the heels of his recent talk at the American Clean Power Association's Energy Storage Summit below. For most of my life, knowing the lights would turn on and the A/C would run when needed was a given. But things have changed. Extreme weather is becoming more frequent. Demand for electricity is increasing at record rates, driven by growth from data centers and AI, domestic manufacturing, and electrification of transportation. Yet we continue to defer building badly needed grid infrastructure – both upgrading existing facilities and constructing new transmission lines to get new sources of power to where they are needed. As a result, reliability is becoming a real issue in many places.   The great news is that we are ready to bring greater reliability to the power grid through battery energy storage. Companies like ours have done their diligence, chosen locations, and advanced the development of our projects. The challenge is this: while we can build a large storage system in under a year, it takes many years to get it connected to the grid. In Texas (the grid with the shortest interconnection timelines), we can expect an average of three to four years of wait time; in other regions, that number bumps up to eight or nine years before a new generation project can connect to the grid.   Shortening the time it takes to connect to the grid is the single most pressing issue to solving our energy challenges. The primary cause of our predicament is that we have consistently failed to build enough new transmission capacity to meet demand. To sum up a very complicated issue in one sentence: we need to move from the current, backward-looking model of rationing scarcity to a forward-looking model of building abundance.   Bringing light to this issue is one of the reasons I join panels at conferences like the American Clean Power Association (ACP)'s RECHARGE Energy Storage Summit, do podcast interviews, and schedule time with energy reporters. We have the solutions to our nation's energy needs, if we can build the infrastructure to connect them.   You can hear more of my thoughts on this issue and the opportunities I see in our industry at the link in the comments.   #Interconnection #EnergyStorage #GridReliability #ElectricGrid #PowerGrid #Energy
