This week, I had the best time facilitating a session on expansive leadership with these incredible young women from Black Girls Code Summer Program in #sanfrancisco. Here is a list of traits we came up with that fit our definition of leadership: good listener, works on solutions as a team, seeks different perspectives, is approachable, exists in places other than work, creative and courageous. These are the people who we admire as leaders: Moms, Dr. Mae Jemison, Michelle Obama, Shirley Chisholm, Lauryn Hill, Martin Luther King Jr., Harriett Tubman, Chaka Khan, Maxine Waters, Tina Marie and Beyoncé. 🤎 Have fun developing your games 🎮 Thank you Mica Le John & Cristina Jones for the invite- I learned so much! #blackwomenintech #womenintech #techjobs #youthdevelopment #STEM #wellness #leadership #gaming #sisterhood #girlscouts Girl Scouts of Northern California Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey

Our troop leaders are leading FUTURE LEADERS! 👏 "I am a leader of Troop #60063 in Palo Alto. Our Brownie troop worked on earning the Democracy for Brownies badge. As a PhD candidate in Political Science at Stanford, I study women's representation in politics, so I know how important it is for girls to see themselves in government and positions of leadership. We learned from two Palo Alto Unified School District school board members about how they got involved in local politics, how local elections work, and what their job in government involves. We also learned from a recent Stanford Law School graduate and current PhD student about the judicial branch, the role of lawyers and judges, and getting interested in law school. Look out world -- I think a future female president is in our ranks!"

Troop 31425 took time to learn how local government works and what it looks like to be a leader! "The troop learned about appointing leaders, elections, and how these leaders solve and resolve city issues. The girls had the opportunity to spend an hour with City of Dublin, CA's former Mayor Melissa Hernandez, discussing her journey to becoming mayor, the election process, and the qualities that make a good leader. They also learned about achieving city goals and making the city a better place for its citizens. The girls asked very smart and intelligent questions, and we even did a role-play where two parents acted as candidates for city mayor, gave speeches on why they should be chosen, and then the girls selected the leader with sound reasoning. Overall, it was an insightful and engaging experience that helped the girls understand the importance of leadership and civic responsibility."

✨ Proud CEO Moment ✨ Girl Scout troop 61981 from Pacifica recently learned about gender pay inequality and were really upset about it. SAME, girls, SAME! "That's not fair!" "Why is this still happening?" So what did they do about it? They launched a project to research the experiences of women in media to find out more. Check out this piece aired on KRON4 Desk featuring anchor (and interviewee) Vicki Liviakis to see how these Girl Scouts are tackling what it means to be a woman in media leadership. A big thanks also goes out to music journalist Allison Hagendorf and Chasta Michaelis program director for 107.7 The Bone for lifting up and inspiring our Girl Scouts. You go, girls! #media #influencers #girlscouts #genderpaygap #payequity #womeninmedia #changeagents #leadership #TV #radio #podcast Girl Scouts of Northern California Girl Scouts of the USA

Girl Scouts has a long history of supporting our country dating back to 1912, when Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts with the first troop made up of only 18 girls. Now 2.5 million strong, Girl Scouts have been blazing trails and redefining what's possible for girls everywhere. Today is a reminder for us to continue to raise our voices for what we believe in, cheer for ideas and people we admire, and trust in our power to make our nation and the world, a better place. Happy Fourth of July! 🎆 #GirlScouts #FourthOfJuly #GSNorCal
