Kayla Barnes, a 33-year-old wellness CEO based in Cleveland, was eager to pick up her date from the airport one spring evening last year. It would be the first time she would meet Warren Lentz, who lived in Los Angeles, in person, and the next step in a month-long burgeoning relationship that included countless FaceTimes, texts—and, most notably, a detailed exchange of personal health information. After meeting Warren on Raya, a private, membership-based dating app, and before their first date, Kayla requested his health labs—including a gut health test and a total toxin test, measuring levels of heavy metals and environmental toxins in the body, plus a slew of other assessments, of nutrient levels, inflammation, and a range of biomarkers. Warren dutifully had them all performed by a local California clinic without hesitance. And Kayla knew, however unromantic, that both his compliance and his results would show more than any other dating compatibility test or ordinary deal-breaker question ever could. I couldn’t be more excited to be at my first Fortune #BrainstormTech! It’s going to be an action-packed few days of content, and programming kicks off in just a few hours. I’ll be writing about it a lot in Term Sheet over the next few days, and if you’re a reader and you’re here—please come find me! I’d be thrilled to meet you. In the meantime, here’s Moon, one of my many new Park City friends!

One of my favorite travel weeks each year is Fortune's #BrainstormTech conference in Park City. In addition to the programming, you get to go out into nature and make friends, like we did this morning with some fly fishing on the Provo River. As proud as I am of this catch, what's not shown is the time I spent on the banks of the river answering emails 😂. Thanks for a great time to my morning fishing buddies Jeremy Kahn and Sharon Goldman. No fish were harmed in the making of this LinkedIn post. 🎣

“Not many businessmen would even consider toying with Bill Gates, much less bragging about it.” That was the observation of Fortune writer Edward Desmond about the cable executive and corporate legend John Malone in a 1998 cover story. Malone’s cable company Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI) was locked in a contentious negotiation at the time with Microsoft over whether the tech giant’s operating systems would power TCI’s cable boxes. Malone was dead-set on not allowing Microsoft to have the near monopoly on cable operating systems it did in the PC market, though he was open to (and later did make) a limited deal with Microsoft. Still, he seemed to relish making Gates sweat—leaving him “pretty agitated,” as Malone told Desmond with “a lean, wolfish grin.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eBwshRFg

This millenial biohacker asked for her first date's health labs before meeting. Now, they're married. In the age of longevity, we've heard much about how people—and, at the extreme, biohackers—are optimizing their health. But have you heard about how biohackers are dating? I spent the last few months learning about Kayla Barnes-Lentz's biohacking lifestyle—and how she met her now husband. She asked for his health labs before meeting, and he gave them to her without question. Their first date was in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, and the rest is history. "Being married has been one of the biggest biohacks I’ve ever done," she says. I learned the art of networking many moons ago from some of the best in the business (looking at you, Joy E. DiBenedetto Cory Anne Charles Nadia Bilchik). Journalism, programming…and any line of work really…is all about relationships. Honored to be working with Fortune and others to build great communities and produce thoughtful conversations - on stage and off. Hello again, Park City! It’s great to be back! #BrainstormTech

An Olympic🥇 Medalist, a Wildlife Fire Fighter Turned Journalist, Young Olympic Hopefuls + VC CMOs. You just never know who you are going to meet. AND that is the magic of ❤️ Fortune's #BrainstormTech. Smart people across different worlds gathering in a mountain retreat to share ideas, learn + connect. Now HOW do you enter + NAVIGATE a room of powerful, accomplished people (or frankly any room)? Cocktails parties, dinners, they can be hard. They intimidate the best of us. It always feels like everyone already know everyone + maybe you should just retreat to your room to do emails or binge watch Netflix 😉 TIP 1: Be brave, dive in and ask lots of question. "Hi, I'm Maryam." And then I just ask lots of questions... because everyone has a story. And if you listen and learn you will find common ground. TIP 2: Be a sharer. "Wait, you're a speed skier training for the Olympics?" What, have you met..." and then I can't wait to introduce my new friends to my existing ones. TIP 3: Hang with friends who are also good sharers. On my way to my room I passed the bar. I met Laurie Yoler at Fortune Most Powerful Women. She is smart, humble and she has an amazing network that she shares. Matthew Prince turned up in our selfie 📸 "Wait do you know..." she says grabbing my arm and taking me to a group of women. "This is Maryam, she's doing x, y,z." These women are power CMO in the VC world. You all need to meet." With that she left + we all stayed talking and exchanging ideas and contacts! TIP 4: Don't give up. Like anything the more you do this, the better you get. And I can garuntee you when this works you will have fun + others will too. ---- I learned that Don Rogers who is the editor of The Park Record Newspaper started off as a wildlife fire fighter. Damn that is cool! Turns out we both share a passion for local news. Picabo Street, post skiing started the Picabo Street Academy to "provide individualized academic pathways to high school students as they pursue their extracurricular passion. Her desire to help young athletes succeed in life beyond sports well, that's purpose-driven and genius. The two amazing skiers are Olympic hopefuls. And they're juggling college while training -- in fact one of them goes to my Alma Mater Columbia University. Gave them both my contact info. Donna MacPhee told her I needed to connect you two. 🛑Let me know if breaking this down is helpful? Drop tips you have in the comments. Mona Nair Holly Brockerhoff inspired this post. Andrew Nusca, yah I was always like this 😉😜 #community #networking #leadership #purpose
