🎆 Ensuring Safety Over the Fourth of July Weekend: Can Automated Speed Enforcement Be the Answer? 🚗💨 As we approach the July 4th weekend, our roads become busier and, sadly, more dangerous. It's a time for family, fireworks, and celebration, but this weekend is also known to be one of the "deadliest" weekends in the U.S. regarding traffic-related incidents. Here’s what we can learn from the latest in automated speed enforcement: 🔹 In cities where automated speed enforcement systems are implemented, speeding violations can drop by up to 70%. 🔹 Research shows a 15% reduction in severe injuries and fatalities due to these systems. 🔹 Systems are operational 24/7, removing risks linked with manual enforcement, and ensuring consistent compliance. For instance, we recently partnered with a U.S. law enforcement agency to curb aggressive driving. After installing automated speed enforcement cameras throughout the county at 56 fixed sites (plus speed enforcement vehicles and portable units), we reported: 🔹 a 78% average reduction in speed citations 🔹 a 50% reduction in the number of vehicles exceeding the speed limit 🔹 a 28% reduction in reported overall collisions 🔹 a 39% reduction in injury or fatality-related collisions 🔹 a 18% reduction in rear-end collisions 🚀 Thoughts: has your city considered exploring these technologies? Here are key factors contributing to the rise in summer collisions and how municipalities can address them: More Inexperienced Drivers 🚗 With schools out, new, teenage drivers hit the roads more frequently. Their lack of defensive driving skills increases the risk of accidents. Action Point: Implement summer driving programs that focus on educating young drivers about safe driving practices. Increase the presence of traffic enforcement near popular youth hangouts and residential areas. More Riders, Cyclists, and Pedestrians on the Roads 🚴♂️🚶♀️ The warmer weather brings out more motorcycle riders, bicyclists, and pedestrians. This added traffic can be hard for drivers to notice, leading to accidents.
