The Tennessee chapter of the American Heart Association gifted our patients and families red heart balloons, each tagged with steps for hands-only CPR to celebrate their 100th birthday. Dr. Sumeet Sharma, a cardiologist at Children's Hospital, serves as the president of our local AHA chapter. This partnership enables us to provide heart health education and awareness to our community!

United Cleanup Oak Ridge LLC (UCOR) and its business partners Strata-G, RSI, and Longenecker & Associates are making a combined $645,000 donation to be distributed over the next five years to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital to expand regional behavioral health outreach at Children’s Oak Ridge Pediatrics facility. Oak Ridge Pediatrics will be the first primary care location in the Children’s Hospital network to offer behavioral health care. The donation will allow Children’s Hospital to hire two full-time behavioral care clinicians; purchase new technology; and offer mental health outreach education and first aid. UCOR has been a long-standing supporter of Children’s Hospital and was involved in the emergency department expansion and hematology-oncology playroom. UCOR President and CEO, Ken Rueter, also sits on the hospital’s board.

The health and safety of families is a top priority - both on our campus and in the community. Last week, Dr. Suzanne Rybczynski, Chief Medical Officer at East Tennessee Children's Hospital, joined the Smart Approaches to Marijuana panel hosted by Metro Drug Coalition and Luke Niforatos. The use of marijuana and other drugs in children is on the rise, and it's important that we examine this impact on families in our community. Together with local resources, we can create a healthier and safer community, one child at a time.
