CEPF is planning a new grant-making program for the Guinean Forests of West Africa hotspot, to run from at least January 2025 to December 2029. Beginning June 2024, BirdLife International will lead on the process of updating the ecosystem profile for the Guinean Forests of West Africa. The update will consist of a range of stakeholder consultations and inputs from experts and aims at producing a new investment strategy which will be the basis for grant-making in the region. CEPF grantee Zoï Environment Network celebrated the first ever International Day of the Markhor today as part of ongoing Biodiversity Week events! The markhor (Capra falconeri) is the national animal of Pakistan, and is an iconic and ecologically significant species found across the mountainous regions of Central and South Asia. Categorized as "Near Threatened" on the IUCN Red List, the greatest threats to the species' survival are habitat loss, illegal hunting, including poaching, and climate change.
