Pastor Bessie Gillard's journey with Church Health began in 2011 after losing her health insurance two decades ago. Amidst battling a cold earlier this year, a routine checkup led to an overdue mammogram referral, revealing an abnormality at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare . Dr. Sheila Thomas and Church Health staff coordinated further tests, leading to the discovery of two nodules in her breast. With the support of Church Health's network, Pastor Gillard underwent successful surgery at Baptist Memorial Health Care, followed by radiation treatments at West Cancer Center & Research Institute and breast reconstruction. Reflecting on her experience, Pastor Gillard expressed immense gratitude for the thorough care and support from her medical team, emphasizing the importance of proactive healthcare and her faith in Church Health's holistic approach to well-being. Our Founder and CEO Dr. Scott Morris with an important announcement: Friends: I have exciting news to share with you. But first, if you’ll indulge me, I want to reminisce for a moment… I started Church Health in 1987 with little more than a vision and an unofficial job title of “professional beggar.” I reached out to neighbors, nurses, and doctors to give their time, skills, and resources to help make my dream of low-cost health care a reality in Memphis. Fast forward 36 (!!) years. Today, Church Health is a beacon of health and community for the working uninsured of Memphis, helping more than 80,000 people. What we’ve achieved together is amazing—and I owe so much of this success to supporters like you. Today, I am proud and excited to announce that our CFO of 11 years, Jennie Robbins, will be taking the reins as CEO. That means I’ll be stepping back, but not going far: I’m returning to my roots as a Church Health physician in our busier-than-ever, walk-in clinic!
