A month ago, we proudly shared our involvement in The Carbon Trust's Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) cables technical working group. At Cathie Associates, we are delighted to have contributed to the release of this impactful report, which aims to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of offshore wind projects. The report continues to be a pivotal development for the #offshorewind industry, offering potential improvements in cable design, cost reduction, and overall performance. Revisit the details below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eVHfFtSw
The thermal properties of soil play a pivotal role in offshore wind inter-array and export cable design. Yet, the lack of clear guidance on conducting and interpreting tests has often led to conservative design choices, resulting in potential cost overruns. A new report released today by the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) cables technical working group provides long-awaited guidance for the industry on: 🌐 Optimal investigation strategy for laboratory and in-situ testing of soil thermal properties. 🛠️ Installation effects on soil properties and their implications for cable design and operation. 📊 Characteristic values for cable design. 📏 Measurement techniques and interpretation for offshore wind. This project represents a significant step forward for the offshore wind industry, with the potential to optimise cable design, reduce costs, and enhance overall performance. For full details, download the report here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gzuy-38U This report is published under the OWA cables technical working group and was delivered by Cathie, ITPEnergised (part of SLR), and the University of Southampton. #OffshoreWind #CableDesign #RenewableEnergy
