Accelerating progress in open-system climate interventions.

About us

Cascade Climate works to accelerate progress in climate interventions that leverage Earth’s natural systems—from soils to oceans to glaciers—to stabilize our climate. As a philanthropically-backed nonprofit, we coordinate and resource ambitious initiatives across science, industry, philanthropy, and policy to overcome the core bottlenecks that are holding back the most promising open-system climate interventions. Our initial focus is advancing the development of a healthy market for enhanced rock weathering (ERW), underpinned by its scientific evidence base and its potential for durable, gigaton-scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR).

We're hiring an Associate to join our team at Cascade Climate! This is an entry-level position for someone who is very hungry to learn and get feedback. You don’t necessarily need to have a background in Earth science or have done previous climate work. We are looking for a fast learner and well-rounded generalist: someone capable of managing complex projects independently, fast-tracking the team’s learning on new and technical topics, building new relationships and alliances, and creating form + structure in a fast-shifting, sometimes ambiguous field.  If this sounds like you, or if you know someone who might be a good fit, our application link is live here: https://lnkd.in/e2nUb7E9 Interested in learning more? We're also hosting an information session on May 9th, 2024, from 5:30-6:30PM ET. Get to know us and what your experience at Cascade could look like, and ask any lingering questions on your mind. Register here: https://lnkd.in/eZDn2psi

We’re hiring for an Ocean Scientist at Cascade Climate! After kicking off our first set of initiatives in enhanced rock weathering (ERW), we are excited to be expanding into marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) pathways–in particular, ocean alkalinity enhancement and direct ocean removal. Do you see yourself as a scientist, a relationship builder, and a strategic thinker? We are looking for someone to not only build out our in-house technical expertise in the marine realm, but also establish and foster relationships across the ocean community and help lead a range of Cascade’s initial mCDR programmatic initiatives. If this sounds like you, or if you know someone who might be a good fit, check out the link below to learn more!

We are thrilled to be supporting the Enhanced Weathering Alliance (EWA), which launched publicly last week. At Cascade, we work to accelerate progress in open-system climate interventions. EWA is an example of an initiative that can help move a whole open-system field forward, by building public awareness, advocating for policies that help accelerate deployment-driven learning carbon removal deployment, and attracting new talent and funding to the ERW. Learn more about EWA’s launch in the official press release: https://bit.ly/EWALaunch. The launch is accompanied by the release of an Enhanced Weathering Policy Primer published by the Carbon Business Council with input from EWA members, which highlights the state of the market and the significant deployment opportunities for enhanced weathering: https://bit.ly/EWPrimer Reach out to the Enhanced Weathering Alliance (EWA) if you would also like to join and help scale enhanced weathering to climate relevance. #climateaction #carbonremoval #climatepolicy #enhancedweathering #EW #climatechange

We’re hiring for an ERW Scientist at Cascade! This will be an unusually high-leverage position to help advance ERW science holistically—even if it is not a research role per se. The role will help shape Cascade’s most important programs and broader strategy to accelerate progress across the ERW field, and be a primary technical force behind Cascade’s main initiative to operationalize the key pillars of a strong community system for rigor and consistency in ERW MRV, while contributing across our ERW programmatic initiatives, from R&D orchestration to federal policy advocacy. You can read more about what this role entails in the link below. We are open both to full-time and part-time candidates. If you are looking for a full-time position, please apply here: https://lnkd.in/dQ_pQNmn If you are looking to contribute in a part-time capacity, please reach out to hara@cascadeclimate.org

We’re excited to publicly launch Cascade Climate today - and we’re hiring! 🌍 Cascade is a philanthropically-funded global nonprofit focused on accelerating progress with interventions that harness Earth’s natural systems—from soils, to oceans, to glaciers, and more—to help stabilize our climate. Our initial focus is enhanced rock weathering (ERW), a promising pathway for durable carbon removal. Visit our new website to learn more about our mission, our major initiatives, and our founding team. And for a deeper overview, check out our appearance last week on This is CDR. 🪨 Cascade’s first flagship initiative is to bring scientific leaders and market operators together to develop a Community Quantification Standard (CQS) to ensure rigor and consistency in quantifying carbon removal via ERW on agricultural soils. As a true industry standard, this will be a first of its kind within durable CDR and a model we hope other CDR pathways can draw upon. Today over 80 scientists and leading market participants are publicly signing on to the Core Principles that serve as the foundation for developing the Community Quantification Standard, underscoring the ERW community’s commitment to quality. 📈 The ERW market is hitting an inflection point, kickstarted by Frontier’s big announcement last week of a $57M offtake agreement with Lithos. We believe it’s essential to build a healthy learning-by-doing market cycle, founded upon rigorous quantification and data access, in order to build public trust and to accelerate scientific learning.  As the vision for Cascade builds on extensive public writing and thinking from our founders, we’re picking up that thread today with a new blog post, reflecting on ERW market’s inflection-point moment. To follow along with our work + writing and to learn more, you can subscribe here. 🛠️ We’re hiring! Please help us spread the word widely about these 4 exciting opportunities to join our team at Cascade. Most importantly, we want to express our deep gratitude to everyone who has helped Cascade get off to a strong start. Over 100 market participants, academics, non-profits, and community partners have been involved in helping launch Cascade and our efforts in shaping a healthy field for ERW and open systems in general.  We are so grateful to them. Quite literally, everything we do is through partnership; we are grateful to our organizational partners, our funders, and countless individual collaborators in the community who are helping us advance the common good by putting a shoulder to the wheel. Thanks to all of you! https://lnkd.in/exbyePRR
