The state is continuing to monitor the impact of this morning’s global software outage. Working with the California Department of Technology, state IT teams and industry partners have identified some state services that had limited impacts on state operations and are quickly bringing those services back online. Remediation efforts are ongoing and will continue until the situation is fully resolved. We appreciate the patience of Californians inconvenienced by this global outage. When a global bug like this occurs, bad actors work hard to take advantage of it. We encourage everyone to be extra vigilant to phishing and smishing and never click on links or open documents from unknown senders.

When global tech issues arise, bad actors try to take advantage by phishing, smishing, and other tactics. Stay vigilant and follow the tips below to protect yourself! 💡WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? 💡 ✅Verify Before You Click: Confirm that all emails and text messages with links or PDFs are from a valid source. If you are not sure, DON'T OPEN! ✅Use Strong Passwords: Create complex and unique passwords and use a password manager to keep track of your passwords and never share them with anyone. ✅Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Add an extra layer of security to your accounts by enabling 2FA wherever possible. ✅Stay Alert for Scams: You can avoid scams by staying alert for warning signs, such as threatening or urgent language. Treat all requests for information with skepticism and never assume someone is who they claim to be. Never trust unsolicited calls, texts, or emails. ✅Prioritize Privacy: Social media is one of their first stops because they know some people tend to share more than they should. Limit what information you make public and set social media accounts to private.
