It’s Rural Road Safety Awareness Week. In California, 55% of all fatalities and serious injuries were the result of lane departures on #Rural highways. Caltrans is working to improve #Safety. In the next five years, Caltrans will invest over $1.4 billion in safety projects with a focus on lane departures. Road safety improvements range from the installation of rumble strips to high-friction surface treatments, road safety barrier installations, and shoulder widening.

🔊 Huge shout-out to Caltrans District 1 employees who assisted a stranded motorist on Route 253 in Mendocino County, enduring triple-digit temperatures. A Fort Bragg man was driving home from Ukiah when his car broke down last week. Caltrans Boonville Maintenance Supervisor, 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗸 𝗪𝘆𝗮𝗻𝘁, noticed the man and pulled off the roadway to help, giving him water and taking him to his work vehicle to cool off. Along with the California Highway Patrol, 𝗥𝗵𝗲𝘁𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗶 a Caltrans Equipment Operator II also assisted and made sure the vehicle was towed and the man got home safe. The man contacted Caltrans and wanted 𝗪𝘆𝗮𝗻𝘁 and 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗶 to know how much he appreciated their help and said he didn’t know what he would have done in the warm temperatures had they not stopped to help him. Caltrans wants to remind motorists when traveling, carry water, snacks, a first aid kit, and a charged cell phone. #Caltrans #CHP #StrongerTogether #KeepingCommunitiesSafe

🐄 🌾 Caltrans is proud to celebrate Rural Transit day with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on July 16th, 2024! Rural transit was established by the FTA in 1979, and Rural Transit Day was created in 2019 to appreciate the unique needs of rural passengers and celebrate the hardworking transit agencies that meet their travel needs. Funded by the Caltrans Division of Local Assistance, rural transit agencies in California play a vital role in maintaining the quality of life of rural residents by connecting people to much-needed essential services, jobs, education, and healthcare. We honor these transit agency partners by publicizing all their hard work, taking the pledge to show our commitment to rural transit, and spreading awareness of Rural Transit Day and the importance of rural transit in our community. Additional details may be found on the National Rural Transit Assistance Program website (https://lnkd.in/dYiuCk2) or visit the Caltrans Rural Transit Assistance Program website (https://lnkd.in/gC2sjZMx) to learn more about rural transportation. #RuralTransitDay #Caltrans #FTA
