Tragically, this summer has already been marred by news of young lives lost due to drownings. According to a recent report from the CDC, more than 15% of U.S. adults do not know how to swim. In The Bronx, this number is closer to 30%, possibly higher in communities of color. This disparity is often due to a lack of access to affordable swim lessons and water safety education. Thank you to Stew Leonard Jr. of Stew Leonard's Farm Fresh Food and Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation for joining BronxWorks CEO Eileen Torres in calling for investment in accessible swim safety classes for NYC residents.
